RES Weekly Buzz
What a year it has been at RES! We thank our parents for their support and partnership during this school year. Words cannot express our appreciation. We look forward to our continued work together as we challenge ourselves and our students to achieve their goals. To the students of Rockport Elementary School ... Thank you for your hard work throughout the school year. We are honored to be your principals.
Our students have enjoyed another fabulous year. They have excelled in so many fields. We have attended many celebration events and have listened in awe as their achievements were described. These achievements have been in academic studies, sports, music, and arts, to name just a few, and we are so proud of them.
We’re excited and sad to send our fifth-grade class off to middle school as we wrap up the year. We’ll miss these students who’ve known them since they were four years old! We’re incredibly proud of them and can’t wait to see their accomplishments. We would also like to extend Best Wishes to all students and families moving away and leaving our community.

RES CURRICULUM UPDATE
ELA/Reading
RES classroom teachers took part in Into Reading Getting Started professional development on Tuesday, June 6th. All K-5 teachers worked with a Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Instructional Coach to review their resources and become more familiar with the program. We are excited to hit the ground running in the fall with these high-quality instructional materials.
Science
Grades 1 - 5 will all be implementing the Full Option Science System (FOSS) next year. Grades 2, 3, and 4 piloted this program this year, and the teachers and students loved how the students learned the science concepts through active investigation. Their science journals highlighted everything they observed and discovered throughout the year with hands on "experiments".
Writing
Peter Harris from Landmark Outreach was onsite on Tuesday, May 30th. Each grade level team had a coaching session to review their implementation of the Landmark writing frameworks based on their publication, "From Talking to Writing". The structure, templates, and graphic organizers, as well as the use of engaging pictures and thematic units, have helped our students develop their sentence and paragraph writing skills. RES will continue to include Landmark writing in our classes next year.
Mathematics
On May 23rd, each grade level team met with an educational consultant from Curriculum Associates for professional development on the iReady Classroom Math program. Our staff was able to work with the consultant to review the new 2024 copyright and the updated features and materials. iReady has helped our students develop a deeper understanding of mathematics through problem solving strategies and sharing their mathematical thinking through discourse with their peers.

Middle School Summer Reading Program - for Rising 6th Grade Students
Dear Fifth-Grade Students and Families:
We know it’s still May, but we are excited to reveal the book titles for RMS’s summer reading program and provide you with time to check out the titles.
After utilizing multiple sources (book lists, librarians, and staff preferences), a diverse group of titles was selected in hopes that we will engage all readers. That being said, please note that the proposed books may not be appropriate for all readers. Given the wide variety of content, themes, text complexity, format, and language usage, please support your child in making a decision that makes the most sense for your family. Fifth grade students will also meet with Ms. Fauci to explore book choices and find out about these titles.
Check out our summer reading website for more information and to view the selected books. For students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, your child’s required reading will include one book from our Community Reading List and one book of your child’s preference.
If you need guidance, reach out to Kriisten Fauci (kfauci@rpk12.org) and/or your school and local librarians for additional information. We hope that you find a compelling read on this list.
