WANG 2023 Annual Meeting Recap
We'd like to thank all the new neighbors who joined WANG and those who renewed their memberships. We'd also like to thank District 10 Council Member Alison Alter and Chief of Staff Kurt Cadena-Mitchell for speaking to our neighbors and answering so many questions about the H.O.M.E. Resolution. We so appreciate Council Member Alison Alter's being a voice for our neighborhoods and working with us to make our voices heard at City Hall. Opportunities for public input were discussed, and better options for the proposed changes to single-family zoning were heard.
Election Results: David Bolduc was formally elected as a new WANG Board Member. Sarah Cain, Heidi Gibbons and Bob Hamilton were all re-elected to the WANG Board.
If you were not able to attend the Annual Meeting you can renew your WANG membership online at http://westaustinng.com/neighborhood/join-wang/ or by mailing a check to the address at this link.
Thank you for attending our Annual Meeting and we hope to see you in the neighborhood!
- The Austin City Council will soon vote on a proposal to allow a minimum of three housing units on every single family zoned lot in Austin
- That number will grow next year, because City Hall plans to allow the subdivision of all lots into 2,500-square-foot parcels
The West Austin Neighborhood Group met on Monday, October 9, to discuss the City Council's proposed resolution to RE-DEFINE SINGLE FAMILY ZONING to allow 3 or more units to be built on single family zoned lots throughout the City, and, next year, to decrease the minimum lot size to 2500 sf. Compatibility setbacks, impervious cover and height restrictions will also be reduced or eliminated.
WANG's recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council:
- SLOW DOWN! Listen to the people who live in neighborhoods!
- Respect Neighborhood Plans as guides for growth in single-family residential areas
- Retain the .4 FAR (Floor Area Ratio) in the McMansion Ordinance for all SF zones
- Any third unit allowed in single-family zoning should be a "tiny home" i.e. no larger than 400 square feet.
- Do not allow RVs to be used as homes
- Two phases of zoning amendments (one now, one next year) is not transparent because the second phase will change the terms of the first.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
THE CITY COUNCIL AND PLANNING COMMMISSION NEEDS TO HEAR FROM YOU, NEIGHBORS!
Please read the proposed PROPOSED CHANGES TO SINGLE FAMILY ZONING.
Let the City know that you would like to have a voice in this process that will dramatically change what can be built in your neighborhood if approved as written!
