Principal’s Message
Dear Stonegate Elementary Caregivers and Families,
This week marks National Inclusion Week at our elementary school, emphasizing the importance of diversity, unity, and creating an inclusive environment for all. Let's celebrate the uniqueness of each student and continue fostering a supportive community where everyone feels valued.
As we continue through the second marking period, we recognize that every grade has recently enjoyed one or more magical field trips, filled with fun and enriching learning experiences. These outings wouldn't be possible without your support, and we're grateful for the opportunity to create lasting memories with our students.
A special *Thank You* goes out to all our families who have joined and are actively supporting the PTA. Your involvement enhances the educational journey for our children, and we truly appreciate your dedication. We look forward to seeing you at our in-person PTA meeting this Tuesday – your insights and ideas are key.
As we transition into colder weather, a friendly reminder to check the daily weather forecast and ensure your students are dressed warmly. The weather changes throughout the day and we are experiencing very cold mornings!
Once again, thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to the success of Stonegate Elementary. Together, we make a difference in the lives of our students.
Warmly,
Linda M. Jones
Principal, Stonegate Elementary

National Inclusion Week
Our theme for Inclusive Schools Week 2023 is Draw Me In! Participating in art provides a pathway to self-discovery, and sharing art opens doors to understanding and respecting different ways of thinking. Do we see the faces of all children and youth drawn into the canvas of our schools and society today?
The need to belong is a basic need of all students and an integral component of effective inclusive schools. To be inclusive implies a fundamental commitment to building relationships among students, families, educators, and the community to support safe and positive learning environments.
Artist and muralist, Kyle Holbrook, founder of Moving the Lives of Kids, has joined us at the Inclusive Schools Network to share his vision and knowledge of public art as a way to reach and include all kids. As we celebrate Inclusive Schools Week 2023, let us respond—Draw Me In!
Happy Hanukkah
Hanukkah is a special festival that is celebrated each year with rich traditions and practices. It is one of the most celebrated Jewish holidays in America. We wish a Happy Hanukkah to our staff, students, and families celebrating this month.
*Friday is Royalty Spirit Day*
Dress as a princess or prince. Wear a crown or tiara. Wear fancy clothes. Be fancy all day!

Emergency Readiness at Stonegate
Every MCPS school completes practice drills for what to do in an emergency. By practicing, we ensure all staff and students know how to respond in an emergency. We practiced many drills on Friday 12/1 and will continue to practice and get used to emergency preparedness in our new space.
- Fire Drill: We practice getting out of the building safely and quickly.
Severe Weather: We practice moving to the areas of the building that are most safe.
Earthquake Response: We will practice moving to safe areas, like under desks.
Shelter: We practice what to do if there is a public safety concern in the neighborhood.
Lockdown: We practice our response to imminent danger in the school or on campus.

Clothing To Cash Recycling Program
Clear out your home before the holiday season!
Clothing to Cash® is a program that collects new and used clothing, shoes, sheets, towels, and all textiles and pays the school for every pound collected. As your child is outgrowing clothes, don’t throw those clothes away, give clothes a second life by donating them to Stonegate.
This recycling program is a win-win! It’s free and convenient for families and also serves as an ongoing fundraiser that serves our students and school community.
The program is operated entirely OUTSIDE and is located in the school parking lot, where students, parents, staff, and the community can drop off items throughout the year. They have state-of-the-art photo quantity sensors installed in each bin that report 3 times daily allowing the company to schedule service as needed. They empty the collection bin, weigh the contents to determine our school earnings, and pay our school each month. Every donation helps. If each family donates just one kitchen-size trash bag, we will earn $1000- $2000 yearly.
Stonegate families, relatives, neighbors, and staff are all encouraged to participate!
