Camas Ridge Counseling Corner
Week 6: October 28, 2020~Growing Through Challenges
Growing Through
Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it--Helen Keller
While there are many obstacles and challenges right now, we have the choice of being paralyzed by the obstacles or growing through the obstacles. I like to think of this time as a great opportunity to shift our focus and goals. We aren't lowering expectations or expecting less of ourselves or others; instead, we may need to shift our expectations and focus.
I believe this time provides the opportunity to learn:
- learn about our community,
- learn about the strength of our mindset to grow and overcome,
- learn self-awareness in regards to our emotional, physical, and mental responses,
- learn how to advocate for our needs and wants, and
- learn how to build resilience within ourselves and our community.
Just like roses in concrete. The real story is how we continue moving forward, even when dealing with obstacles and struggles. Like the roses confronted with concrete that struggles because the path has been made more difficult. There are obstacles, things look dark, but that's when they look for the light and move toward it. It finds a way to grow through.
Resilience
Resilience is not always being right and successful. It holds the ability to make mistakes and determination to continue to get back up and continue forward.
Below and linked here is a kid-friendly video on resilience.
