Eastview WIN Time on Wednesday Afternoons in the Learning Commons
Students can benefit from an opportunity for academic support every Wednesday afternoon from 2:40pm – 4:15pm in the Learning Commons. Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. Students do not need to sign up in advance for WIN Time. We do ask that students plan to be there for the start at 2:40pm so they can benefit from the full support. We will keep a log of students and their engagement (arrival/departure time and their focus/work while they are there). For students needing transportation home, activity buses will be available departing at 4:45pm.

BOYS HOCKEY
Boys Varsity Hockey Team Defeats Shakopee, Earns Top Seed in Section 3AA Playoffs
Senior Goalie Gabe Otis had 38 saves and Sophomore Forward Sam Wooten and Senior Forwards Cam Roth and Zach Wooten scored goals as the Eastview boys varsity hockey team capped its regular season with a 3-2 “statement” victory over Shakopee on Saturday, February 17. The win helped the Lightning secure the top seed in the Section 3AA playoffs, which begin this week. In a showcase of two of the state’s top goalies, Otis bested Shakopee’s Aleksi Huson, stopping 38 of 40 shots; while three of Eastview’s 28 shots got past Huson. Shakopee took a 1-0 lead at 4:17 of the second period on one of its six power-play opportunities, but Sam Wooten answered 2:21 later with a short-handed goal off a face-off win and brilliant pass by Senior Forward Jordan Brothers. At 10:10 of the second, Roth flipped a rebound past Huson at close range for a 2-1 Eastview lead. With just over a minute to go in the period, Zach Wooten one-timed a centering pass from Brothers into the net for a 3-1 Lightning lead. Although Shakopee scored early in the third period, Eastview stifled the Sabers’ attack the rest of the way. The Lightning open Sectional play on Thursday, February 22, when they will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between Apple Valley/Burnsville and Hastings.
The JV Boys Hockey Team faced the Shakopee Sabers for their final game of the season on Saturday. The JV Lightning played one of their best games of the season against a strong Sabers team. Neither team was able to score in the first 2 periods of the game. Ty Young blocked 26 shots in the first 2 periods alone. With just over 3 minutes left in the 3rd period, Cole Hille scored an unassisted goal to give Eastview the lead. Eastview continued to play hard to keep the lead, but Shakopee managed to score with 21 seconds left in the game to force overtime. The JV Boys continued to battle but Shakopee managed to score first with 2 minutes left in overtime. Ty Young blocked 49 shots and was very strong in net. The JV Boys now turn their attention to supporting the Varsity team as they head into the Section playoffs on Thursday.
