KMS Family Newsletter
December 2022
MISSION: IGNITING A PASSION FOR LEARNING
Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
Happy Holidays! We hope this newsletter finds everyone well as we enter a busy time of year.
It is hard to believe that the first trimester is behind us and that the Holiday season is quickly approaching. As you are out and about shopping and taking care of other tasks this time of year please remember to check with your child and replenish school supplies as necessary.
Cell Phones:
Is your child texting you during the day? If they are your response should be, "Does the office know you are contacting me right now?" We have had several students texting during class and quite a few times we find out they are communicating with home. We understand that messages may need to be sent during the school day, all your child has to do is ask a teacher and either come to their room or the office to use their cell phone to message their parents. As a reminder, the school expectation is that phones are turned off and in their locker during the school day. If a child has their phone on them it is taken away. The first time it is a warning, if a student has their phone again a parent will need to pick it up in the office.
Reporting Social Media Issues:
There has been an increase in social media issues being reported to school. We appreciate that you would like our help in solving these issues, however, we cannot handle any issue that presents itself over social media. Please contact your local law enforcement agency to assist you.
KMS wishes everyone health and happiness as we head into the holiday season and the new year. As a reminder, the KMS office will be closed from December 23-January 1.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Skelton

KMS Giving Tree
If your family is willing and able to help this holiday season by purchasing a gift for a KMS family in need, you can send your child down to the office to choose an ornament from the tree which is located just outside the main office. The ornament contains an age and gift suggestion listed on it. You can also email me and I can assign an ornament(s) to your family. We ask that the gift be returned wrapped, with the ornament attached, by December 14 so that we can arrange for gift pickup with the families.
If you do not wish to purchase a specific gift, we are also able to distribute gift cards to families in need. Gift cards for groceries, gas or taxi service would be welcomed.
Student Services Updates from the desk of Mrs. Paruch
Dear Families,
6th Grade Planning Conferences are underway and have been so fun and productive. If you are the parent/guardian of a 6th-grade student and have not already signed up for a timeslot, please do so as soon as possible. These meetings are conducted individually with me, the student, and the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s). It is an opportunity to get to know each other, discuss how the transition to middle school has gone, and review the hi-lite of our Academic and Career Planning Program, which is something we excel at here in Kewaskum. Students enjoy sharing their long-term plans and career aspirations. It is something you won’t want to miss!
During classroom lessons this month, 7th and 8th graders learned about gratitude. One simple strategy that we learned is “Mining the Good Stuff.” By routinely identifying three things we’re grateful for from our day, we begin to notice the good things in our days while we experience them. Students were encouraged to add this to another part of their routine, like when they eat dinner or when they brush their teeth each day. It can also be a great tool to connect as a family and share the good stuff with each other each day. We also learned about gratitude as a mindset and how it can impact our stress levels and our relationships.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Paruch

KMS Parent Group
The next meeting was inadvertently scheduled on a concert night so we will not be meeting. The next event the group was looking at planning was "Snowed in at the Movies" on February 3, 2023. To help us organize the evening I have created a google doc for families to sign up on if they can help out! Thank you to the great group of parents that have been volunteering and helping to make the KMS Parent group successful.
