From Dr. Mehlberg: Bathroom Vandalism
Dear Finn Hill Families,
Happy Friday! I am reaching out to share some information regarding recent acts of vandalism at our school. Over the past few weeks, several student bathrooms have been vandalized. Students have broken equipment, and left messes for our custodians that go beyond the typical middle school mess. As a result of these behaviors, we have had to lock two student bathrooms this week.
Vandalism is defined as “Intentionally destroying, damaging, or defacing school or personal property. This includes tampering with equipment or supplies or displacing property.” Lake Washington School District takes vandalism seriously. It is costly to our schools, creates challenges for our staff, and disrupts student learning.
We are asking for families to discuss this serious issue with your student(s). We have increased our presence in hallways and will have adults monitoring bathrooms more frequently.
Additionally, students should be aware of school cameras that capture who enters and exits student bathrooms. If students are found to have vandalized our school, consequences may include restitution, detention, suspension or expulsion.
We are fortune to have a beautiful school. Thank you so much for helping us to reinforce appropriate behaviors with our Finn Hill Falcons so we can all continue to enjoy it!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Stacy

Lost & Found
Lost a water bottle? A sweater? A lunchbox? Bike helmet or a retainer? All of these things are currently in our lost and found. Please have your student take a look at the table across from the cashier's window in the main hall. Smaller items are kept in the office, so ask an office member if you have lost smaller or valuable items.
From LWSD: Upcoming Panorama Survey in November
Dear Families,
As you may already be aware, growing our students’ social-emotional (“SEL”) skills is an important goal for our school. As part of these activities, we survey students (grades 3-12) and ask them to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning. The data we get back helps us continue to identify opportunities for growth and development with our students.
We partner with a leader in the SEL space, Panorama Education. Panorama develops tools to empower schools and districts to learn about students’ self-perceptions, better understand student experiences in their learning environment, and identify opportunities to enhance support of teachers and counselors as they implement SEL programs.
Panorama’s SEL survey is grouped into three categories:
· Student competencies
· Student supports and environment
· Teacher skills and perspectives
These surveys will help shape the districts’ approach to supporting teachers’ work in service of the whole student.
The survey will take place between November 1st - 15th. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We appreciate your partnership!
Thank you,
Finn Hill Middle School

Needed: Guest Speakers in AVID
AVID (advancement via individual determination) is looking for guest speakers to visit the classroom virtually to share their career and college experience. Please email pbergstrom@lwsd.org for more information.
Needed: AVID Tutors
AVID is also looking for tutors. Tutors help students work through academic problems (little to no academic knowledge in specific subjects is needed). Tutoring will occur Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:35-10:20 at FHMS. Please email pbergstrom@lwsd.org for more information.
The PTSA Perch
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes will be on Tuesday, October 26th. If your student has never had his/her/their picture taken, he/she/they will do it during Re-Takes. If your student is unhappy with the original pictures and wants to do retakes, he/she/they must bring in the picture packet if pictures were purchased.
ASB Fundraiser Results
Way to go, Falcon friends and families! We netted over $10,000 in the ASB popcorn sale this fall. Thank you for your generosity in support of our ASB!
