North High Newsletter
January 2024
From the Principal
Greetings Viking Families,
As we begin the Spring Semester 2024, I want to provide a few reminders to support students’ success.
- Classes resume January 8th (A-Day)—students will report to Viking Time first to get an updated copy of their schedule. Please see below for the bell schedule we will follow on Monday.
- First bell rings at 7:30am
- Tardy bell rings at 7:40am
- Dismissal is at 3:05pm
We appreciate your help with getting students to school on-time. Leave a message on the attendance line if your student(s) will be absent. See the rest of this Newsletter for important reminders about our Electronic Devices/Cell Phone and Prom Attendance Expectations. Be sure to discuss these with your students.
For families with students in 8th grade, we invite you to attend Open House on Tuesday, January 9th from 6-8pm. We are excited to highlight all of the wonderful educational opportunities available at North High!
We are looking forward to another great semester of teaching and learning. Thank you all for your continued support and involvement in the Viking Community. If you have any questions, please call us 531-299-2700.
Go Vikings!
Junior/Senior Prom Expectations
We are looking forward to a wonderful Prom for Juniors & Seniors and their approved guests on Saturday, May 4th. Please note, attending extracurricular activities, such as school dances, is a privilege. Students are expected to demonstrate the values of being a Viking consistently. Therefore, students in good standing must meet the following expectations to attend:
Students must maintain regular attendance
Be in good credit and grade standings
Have no significant code of conduct violations.
- No out of school suspensions the week of the event
Post-Prom Celebration by the PTSO!
The Omaha North PTSO is still in need of one (or more) additional volunteer to help coordinate post prom. One individual has already come forward (Thanks Amanda!), so now we only need one more to coordinate the celebration, in collaboration with the PTSO executive board.
The Post Prom coordinators would lead the different Post Prom committees: decorations, prizes/donations, volunteers, food, entertainment. We have had many PTSO members sign up to help with the event, so the coordinators would have a solid group of people behind them; we just need one more individual. If North PTSO does not have another person to serve as Post Prom Coordinator(s) by our next PTSO meeting on January 16, 2024, we simply will have to cancel the 2024 post prom celebration.
If you would like to volunteer either as a coordinator or simply just as a volunteer, or if you have follow-up questions or concerns, please send an email to OmahaNorthPTSO@gmail.com, or call/text David Holtzclaw at (402) 213-3788. We thank you for your consideration.
Cell Phone Expectations Reminder
Please remember, cell phones should be at a Level 1, silenced and put away, unless the teacher has given explicit permission for phones to be out in class for an academic reason.

PTSO Donation
Happy New Year! Please consider making a tax deductible donation to the Omaha North Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO). We are most visible selling concessions during athletic events, but we also support students and staff behind the scenes. For example, last Friday we provided teachers and staff cookies and cocoa as the semester comes to a close. We’ve given over $3,500 to student organizations to support their activities, and supported and attended Student Council and Omaha North Foundation events. The list goes on. Any support you can give, regardless of how small, will be greatly appreciated. Please click the link below or scan the QR code below. Your donation is tax deductible & greatly appreciated!

North Robotics Wins Big in Fall League!
1064 Robotics had a good showing in the Fall Robotics League hosted at Omaha North. Over the course of 5 League events and the Finals the teams all finished in the top 15 holding 6 spots in the top 10 and 3 spots in the top including 1064B holding the number one spot with a record of 18-3.
1064P and 1064A scored the upset victory over 1064B and their Alliance Partner from Brownell-Talbot, to earn their spots to the Nebraska State Robotics Championship (hosted at Omaha North March 8th and 9th) and the CREATE US Open Robotics Championships
THANK YOU!
Omaha North Robotics (Team 1064) would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to all of the parents, staff, and students who helped us with our robotics competition on December 15th and 16th. Without all of the volunteers, we would not have been able to host the largest VEX Robotics in Nebraska. Even though none of our teams were winners, all of our teams had at or near their best their best competitions of the year. 6 teams made moved out of Qualifications and into the Eliminations rounds, multiple teams moved out of the round of 16 and 1064B lost in the division Semifinals. We also had 5 teams finish in the top half of the Skills Challenge.
AP Literature & Composition
North High's AP Literature & Composition classes had the opportunity to enjoy the Orpheum's performance of My Fair Lady on December 3rd as part of their Pygmalion unit!
