What's Happening??!!
~ Hawley Elementary School Newsletter: January 28, 2024 ~
From the Desk of Mr. Moretti.....
Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,
January brought Winter Assessments, our 1st Celebration of Learning in a long time, a Bus Behavior and Safety push, plus some warmth-then cold-then snow-then rain.
Buckle up, stay seated, and keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .....
~ Winter Assessments ~
Upon return from winter vacation, we began Winter Assessments. Grades K-2, and some grades 3 and 4 students, were given Dibbles (a reading assessment). Grades 2-4 took iready in Math and Reading, while our first graders took iready Math (a continued District pilot).
These assessments show growth, skill strengths and deficits. We celebrate the successes and target the deficits with instruction and intervention.
There was no preparation for these assessments except a good nights sleep and to be to school on time. Again, these results help us see growth from the Fall and determine instruction and support needed moving forward. Results will be shared with parents shortly.
~ Snow Daze ~
As we go through our Snow Months, here is how and when students may play in the snow.
- They MUST have ALL 5 items: hat, gloves, coat, snow pants and boots.
- Kindergarten can not be accommodated as it takes to long to get them all into gear
- Grade 1 can go on Day 3
- Grades 2-4 students are any day with all 5 items.
~ Kindergarten Registration 2024/2025 ~
Kindergarten Registration for the upcoming school year (2024/2025) has begun. It is earlier this year due to the new State Law requiring students to be 5 by September 1 (as opposed to December 31).
If you have a student ready for Kindergarten, please go to the District Website and Register. If your child turns 5 between Sept-Dec, you can ask for a screening to see if they are ready for Kindergarten. If not, there is a pilot District Program for the students in this birthday range. Encourage anyone you know with a child ready for Kindergarten to Register NOW!
Click HERE for a letter from the District with more information.
If you have any questions, you can call our main office (203)426-7666.

The District is holding an SEL Forum. This evening is for families to learn how the District supports Social Emotional Learning, K-12. The evening is THIS Wednesday, Reed Cafeteria, 7:00 PM. This informational evening is for adults only.
