February 2023
Message from the desk of Justin Mewborn
Dear VCMS Families,
February has been a fantastic month here at VCMS. Spring sports here at VCMS are just getting started, our clubs are continuing to meet regularly, and we are deep into the planning for next school year. Our community support here at VCMS helps us to create many wonderful opportunities for your children to find success in their educational journey. We are grateful for our supportive VCMS school community.
We have so much to celebrate this month here at VCMS. Congratulations go out to these students who were selected for the VCMS CTAE Student of the Year for their pathway. They will be formally recognized at the district’s CTAE awards Gala in March. They are now in the running to be considered for overall student of the year for their program pathway.

Ledger H - Audio Visual and Technology
Vamsi Y - Engineering Technology
This month we also held our VCMS Oratorical competition. Mayukha M. finished runner up while Vamsi Y finished in first place. Mayuhka M. will be filling in for VCMS at the FCS oratorical contest. We had 20 students compete in this event who all did a fantastic job.
We only have a little over two weeks left in the 3rd 9 weeks. Most communication regarding grades and assessments can be found in Parent Portal. Information about assignments and upcoming assessments or what students covered in class day-to-day can be found in ItsLearning. ItsLearning is also a great communication tool between your child and their teacher. As a reminder, academic courses in middle school have continuous grades throughout each semester. This means that if a student is not doing well during the third quarter, they still have time to make improvements before the end of the 4th quarter (or the end of the 2nd semester in May). It takes a village to provide the needed supports for students during this time period. Your continued partnership with the school is vital to your child’s development as they learn the life skills to wrestle with challenging assignments and growing into adults.
This month the West Community Schools will be hosting the 1st annual West Fest at West Forsyth High School. We will have Food, Fun, and Prizes along with opportunities to learn more about the programs and activities offered in the West Community Schools. This event takes place on Saturday, March 25th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at West Forsyth High School.
The week of March 27-31, we will be celebrating “Dude. Be Nice” week here at VCMS. The focus will be on spreading kindness throughout our school community. T-Shirts are now on sale through March 10th in the Drama classroom from 8:15-8:45 or these can be purchased on My Payments Plus.
The VCMS Spring Book Fair also takes place March 16th-24th. We are seeking to have parent volunteers in the media center for the fair. Please use the following link to sign up VCMS Book Fair Sign Up March 16th-24th
Mr. Feldkamp also would like to remind our community that he will be more than happy to attend Homeowner Association meetings for subdivisions who reside in the Vickery Creek Middle School district. During these visits, he will share information about Vickery Creek Middle School and provide insight to middle school life. If you are an HOA board member and would like to have him attend one of your monthly, semi-annual, or annual HOA meeting, please click on the link below.

Georgia state law requires that all seventh graders, born on or after January 1, 2002, must have a Meningitis (MCV4) and a Tetanus (TDAP) vaccine on a GA 3231 immunization record before entering the seventh grade.
Please ensure your student is up to date on all required vaccines prior to the start of the next school year.

Read by Mr. Whitt
Tells the origin of Clark Kent's realization of his powers and growing up with extraordinary abilities that he has to keep secret from those around him. I love superhero books, and this is no exception. This is a great read.
Read by Mr. Doyle
Challenging read about a day in Dublin, Ireland in the early 1900's.
Read by Ms. Chase
It's a powerful book about parents separating from their children to provide a better life for them, but written and perceived from a child's point of view.
