Appreciation to our Guest Teachers
Ms. Blackwell is excited to share with you how we've shown our appreciation for Guest Teachers this month. In celebration of Chinese/Lunar New Year each Guest Teacher received a gift bag with a tin can filled with fortune cookies, a set of chopsticks, and a welcome letter. The tag attached to each bag read "We are so Fortunate to have Guest Teachers like you"! Our Student Aides delivered them. The remaining items will be made available to our teachers. See the images below.
Happy Lunar New Year,
Ms. Blackwell

Pikes Peak Region One Act Competition
Friday Drama Workshop 4 attended the Pikes Peak Region One Act Competition. We were the only D11 school to compete. They performed "Look Me in the Eye", a dystopian drama. They selected the show in December, and only rehearsed in class the month of January.
Highlights-
- Emma Henry (senior) took Outstanding Supporting Actress (only 4 awards were given out to individuals)
- Our troupe had great praise from the judges for their ensemble connection and clear character objectives (both very difficult things to do).
- Nick Karn and Amanda Blanchard went above and beyond to make it happen. With ever hurtle, they were there. My appreciation for their support is beyond words.

“She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition” is being performed Friday and Saturday, March 11th and 12th at 7 PM. “
The publisher describes the show as “She Kills Monsters tells the story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and ’90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.”
The cast and crew have poured themselves into this production since December, practicing 10 hours a week at rehearsal, plus preparing at home. They’ve worked with a stage combat choreographer to produce some epic battles, and have worked really hard at developing memorable, and meaningful characters. We hope that you’ll consider joining us for their performance. More details are available at www.mitchelldrama.org. “

Mitchell High School partnership with The University of Chicago and Network for College Success
Mitchell High School is in their second year of a partnership with The University of Chicago and Network for College Success. The Network for College Success (NCS) “envisions neighborhood high schools that continuously cultivate collaboration, powerful learning, and a culture of high achievement to prepare all students for college and career success.”
In this second year, our work is focused on building teams of Mitchell staff to develop systems of support, ensuring the success of our freshman and sophomore students. This work is part of our Mitchell Multi-Tiered System of Support.
Some of the support systems that have been built this year include: Universal Grade Checks and Progress Plans in CCRC, Mandatory Interventions in CCRC, Kid Talks, and the After-School Tutoring program. Most recently, our Freshman Success Team and the Sophomore Success Teams have started Kid Talks, a process where teams of teachers work together to develop and implement interventions and strategies to support struggling students. These teams then follow up to ensure that the strategies are helping students experience greater success. In the coming year, we hope to develop Junior and Senior Success teams as well.

Shout Out to our Instructional Coaches
Big shout out to our instructional coaches Jennifer Chappell and Cheri Kessler, for hosting the inaugural Kagan Kafe sessions today! I snapped some pictures of session two participants practicing with the structures and the delicious food provided. This is a great demonstration of distributive leadership and site-level talent development that will positively impact instruction in the classroom. If you missed this one, don't miss the next one. Kudos to our facilitators and participants.
