Pyramid of Success
Coach Wooden believed and taught that the most important responsibility each of us had to ourselves was to do everything we could to achieve our own potential. He offered his Pyramid of Success and his definition of Success as a guide, stepping stones to help young people understand what it really takes to make the effort – 100% – to fulfill their potential and do their best. Every couple of weeks, our students will focus on one or two character traits from Coach Wooden's Pyramid of Success. Positive examples of students exemplifying the character traits will be recognized with the Pyramid of Success Awards. Classroom lessons will reinforce elements of the Pyramid of Success. Additionally, whole school assemblies will feature character traits from Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success.
For the next three weeks, we will be focusing on Friendship and Loyalty:
FRIENDSHIP -"To make friends, be a friend"
To make a friend you must be a friend. Friends are your family, teammates, classmates and workmates. They help you succeed and achieve your goals. Friendship is mutual. It is not a one way street. Good friends do good things for each other.
LOYALTY - "Be trustworthy"
Strive to be reliable and dependable. Keep your word by doing what you say you will do. When you have Loyalty others will be loyal to you! It means giving respect to those you work with. Respect help produce Loyalty.
Next week, we will be focusing on our next Thinking Map of the week, the Brace Maps. The Brace Map is used identifying part of a whole.
This Map is used to show the components of an object or a concrete item. Take a few minutes to engage in a family activity that will reinforce this type of thinking and learning for your child at home.
Congratulations to Mrs. Muniz’s and Mrs. Brown’s classes with the best attendance for last week. Did you know that research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
This year’s attendance goal for Adams Elementary is 94% average daily attendance. Last year our attendance rate was 92.6% which was a significant decrease in our attendance rate. In order to meet our school goals, we must see an increase in student attendance for the 23-24 school year. Currently, Adams Elementary has an attendance rate of 95.46% for this year.

Raising Kids with a Growth and Resilient Mindset
Did you know that you can teach your children a mindset that will actually help them do better academically? What if we told you this same mindset could significantly impact how successful and resilient your kids are in adulthood? Children with a growth mindset believe their intelligence and abilities can continually develop throughout life. Basically, they believe they can LEARN and therefore get smarter and more skilled through applied effort.

Reminders
- Check what the All Stars are up to. Follow us here: @adamsallstarsnmusd
- As a friendly reminder, the annual Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach is this weekend, September 29 through October 1. You may hear loud flight activity throughout our community as they practice for the air show this week. This is an annual event with thousands of people expected to attend this weekend.
- We want our students to be successful in school and for this to be achieved we need the parents support. Parents, please make sure your student does not bring any toys to school. Also, if your student has a cellphone, remind your student the cellphone cannot be used during school hours. This also includes recess and lunch time. We thank you for your cooperation!
- Early Pick Ups- If you need to pick up your student early please do so by 2:30 as we are seeing an influx of parents coming about 10 minutes before the bell to pull their student which is causing a disruption as the teachers are helping all students pack up and the turnaround is quick.
- Birthday Celebrations - Our school does not do birthday celebrations, please do not bring cake, cupcakes, or candy to celebrate birthdays. We celebrate our All Stars calling out their name at the flag deck each day to celebrate them.
