Notes From the Board
July 1st began a new fiscal year for our congregation and a brand new make up of our Board of Trustees. We are happy to welcome Steve McGahee as our Vice President, Kit Marlowe as our Secretary and Paul Utts as our Treasurer. We also would like to welcome our three new members at large, Pat Kennedy, David Weesner and Heather Swenson-Brilla. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing board members Betsy Earbaugh, Janet Longo and John Brilla for their hard work and service to the congregation.
Our new sign was delivered and installed last Friday. It was exactly what we ordered based on our congregational meeting and looks awesome! We will now need to repaint both signposts and that should be done in the very near future. We would like to thank Janet Longo, chairperson of the Signage committee and her team for their hard work and determination to see this project through to completion. This committee worked over two years and through many obstacles to get us where we are today and we are grateful for your service.
Progress continues on our building rental to a Home School Co-op who would like to begin using our building one day a week beginning in September. We also are moving along on our audio visual project and should have some pieces of the project completed in the next several weeks. We will be hearing more about this from our board member David Weesner.
You may also notice that we have stopped listing the Heartfulness Meditation reminder in our midweeks and on our calendar. Since the pandemic, these services have moved to Zoom and the group no longer has an affiliation with the congregation.
Karen York has agreed to chair the Coronavirus Safety Task Force Committee and we appreciate her service. If anybody is interested in joining this committee, please reach out to Karen.
And finally the board is open to your thoughts and suggestions. Please reach out to any one of us to communicate them. You can send an email to board@uucsjs.org.
Marty Quish
UUCSJS Board President
Call to Action
Lawn Mowing Help Needed
Our loyal volunteer lawn mower, Steve Merkel, is laid up with a neck injury. Is there anyone who is able to mow our UU Center lawn? We figure it will be about 2-3 more mowings this season.
Please contact Barbara Miller, 609-602-0940 or bcmillermusic@gmail.com if you can help.
Steve and Palma, caring thoughts from the Building and Grounds Committee are flying to you.
Eastern Service Workers Association In Need
Is there a working electric typewriter down in the rear of your closet or up in your attic that can be donated to ESWA?
One of their 2 typewriter's right-hand-margin can't reset and the other typewriter doesn't type the letter 'g'!!!
Please let Colby T. know if you have an electric typewriter to donate!
Thanks so much
Blessing Bags
This summer the children and youth in our Children's RE program are exploring service to others. Our first principle asks us to treat each person with dignity and respect. We are going to make ziploc bags of things people who are unhoused might need, such as a toothbrush, deodorant, even a snack to keep them going. But we need help collecting all the items.
Please review the sign up link below and help us make this project a reality!
Short on time? Don't know exactly what to get? You can also order directly from our Amazon Wish List!
Donations can be brought in to UUCSJS through August 21st.
Flowers for the Chalice Table
Please speak with Colby if you wish to bring an arrangement of your choosing to our chalice table for a Sunday Service.
Contact Colby Tippins call/text: 609-442-0967.
