Leyden values input from our families and will be requesting formal input from parents/guardians and students twice this school year. Today, August 28, a survey called Humanex was sent to all families via email and students will participate during an upcoming school day. The purpose of this new survey is to gain feedback that is specific to Leyden, whereas the winter survey offers state standardized questions. Obtaining feedback is an important part of the process as we seek to enhance the educational experience for our students.
In addition to the emailed survey, parents will have an opportunity to provide their feedback from laptops available during Open House on August 29.
The second formal opportunity for input will launch in late January and is required by the Illinois State Board of Education. The 5Essentials survey provides Leyden administrators with important information that helps to better understand our parents, students and staff.
In order to remain compliant with this state requirement, Leyden needs a minimum of 20-percent participation from parents, students and staff. Input is kept confidential and helps us understand our school community as we make decisions moving forward.
We encourage families and students to please share feelings, insights, and perspective with us via these formal surveys, and also informally with our leadership team, on an ongoing basis.
The survey is expected to take about five minutes to complete and is completely anonymous and confidential. No individual responses will be reported; rather, the responses will be reported in an aggregate fashion.The survey will be collecting responses August 28 through September 11. Please plan to complete the survey in one sitting, as the page will time out if left inactive, requiring you to start over.

Leyden history teacher featured in magazine
West Leyden history teacher, Dariel Chaidez is featured in the news magazine of the American Historical Association Perspectives on History. Mr. Chaidez has two articles that were published in the magazine this past summer. “Getting the Ball Rolling, Introducing Local History to a High School Community," appeared in the July 19, 2023 issue and “The Next Step, Getting Students Involved in Local History," was published on August 23, 2023. We are so proud of his efforts and the pride and passion he shares for Leyden history!

Operation Snowball participates in 5K
On Saturday, August 19, Operation Snowball members, Yanna Flor and her Father, Kayla Mata, Claudine Ricana and her father, Genesis Diaz and her mother, Ms. Muldoon and Penny participated in the Warm Fuzzy 5K walk/run supporting the leaders of Operation Snowball.
All proceeds will be directed to Operation Snowball, Inc. to continue impacting youth through leadership training and events across the world. Operation Snowball is a global program that focuses on leadership development to empower youth to lead drug-free lives.

Little Eagle Cheer Clinic is back!
Our cheerleading team is bringing back our "Little Eagle Cheer Clinic"! It is for children in kindergarten through 8th grade. The clinic will take place on Thursday September 7th.
