TSD Staff at the State of Michigan Reading Recovery Institute
The Institute is designed for trained and in-training Reading Recovery®, Literacy Lessons™, and Literacy Support teachers, teacher leaders and trainers, and superintendents, principals, and school board members. The purpose is to provide in-depth study of issues related to Reading Recovery, Literacy Lessons, and Literacy Support teaching and training. It was hosted by the Reading Recovery Council of Michigan.
National Merit Reception
Troy’s 60 National Merit Scholar Semifinalists (2024) were recognized for this incredible honor at a reception on Thursday. Less than one percent of students nationwide achieve this milestone award based on their Preliminary SAT (PSAT) scores. These talented students advance to the finals and will compete for $30 million in scholarships next Spring along with the coveted Merit Scholar title.

Toni received the Roger Ashley Freedom to Read Award from the Michigan Association for Media in Education.

Troy Elementary Schools Top the Charts in Michigan!
U.S. News looked closely at state assessments of students who were proficient or above-proficient in mathematics and reading/language arts while also accounting for student backgrounds, achievement in core subjects, and how well schools are educating their students. Student-teacher ratios were applied to break ties in the overall score. Click here for the U.S. News data.
Wattles Watch D.O.G.S.
Wattles students and staff welcome father figures into the building each Friday. These Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) read with students, play math games, and facilitate recess activities. We look forward to having these special visitors in our classroom each week!

Barnard Blue Jays
Model the 3Rs: Barnard loves to celebrate students who model Responsibility, Respect, and those who Build Positive Relationships. Students are nominated by their teachers and family members. Barnard hosts a special monthly assembly to celebrate these students with strong character!

Hamilton Creates Blankets for Kids
Students tied 20 blankets for local hospital pediatric patients through “Fleece and Thank You” and recorded personal messages of encouragement to go with them.

Hill Celebrates Veterans Day
Hill welcomed 15 Veterans for a special Veterans Day celebration. Students shared sweet treats, visited and interviewed our special guests, shared homemade cards of support, and ended the appreciation event by singing “The Brave.”
We are grateful for their service!
World Kindness Day at Martell
Martell Elementary celebrated World Kindness Day on November 13 with Character work during Team Huddle. World Kindness Day is a great day to pause, reflect, and focus on what bonds us together.

8th Grade Trip to Washington DC
Baker, Boulan Park, Larson, and Smith 8th graders took their annual class trip to Washington DC and visited some of the following landmarks:

Athens Theatre Company Visits the Land of Oz!
Follow Dorothy’s journey from Kansas to Oz, and enjoy the friends she meets along the way as a full cast puts on the ever-popular family-friendly show, “The Wizard of Oz” on Friday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. All tickets are pre-sale, $20 adults, $15 students, $5 seniors. Troy Colts Swim and Dive
After a great regional meet, seniors Ashley Jaskulka and Kristin Losey are moving on to States! Shoutout to Noelle Kwok for competing in her first regional competition as well!

Troy United Hockey
Coach Josh Brown, captain Caleb Dominguez (‘25 AHS), alternate captain Michael Li (‘25 THS), alternate captain James Clapp (‘25 AHS) and alternate captain Matthew Van Raemdonck (‘26, THS) represented the team at the Oakland Athletic Association’s media day. They were interviewed by reporters from the Oakland Press and WJR radio and kicked off their regular season on Wednesday night vs Farmington United at Farmington Hills.
TSD hosts MHSAA Football
TSD hosts MHSAA Football Semifinal Football games on Saturday, Nov. 18, both beginning at 1 p.m. Athens hosts D2 State Semis: Waterford Mott vs Warren De La Salle. Tickets are $10 and can only be purchased online through GoFan by clicking here. Troy High hosts D1 State Semis: Southfield AT&T vs. West Bloomfield. Tickets are $10 and can only be purchased online through GoFan by clicking here. There will be a $5 charge for parking. For more information, click here.
Both schools will have complete concession stand offerings through the athletic boosters, so come hungry! The winner of both games will play in the State finals at Ford Field on Saturday, November 25, or Sunday, November 26 (the schedule is not set yet).
