The Owl Post
January 17, 2024
Dear Vernon Community,
I hope you all are staying warm and safe during our winter weather. The school has escaped most of the worst of the weather. Hopefully we will be back at school on Thursday with no further weather related issues for the remainder of the year!
I want to remind you of our upcoming late start for all K-8 students. We recently adopted some new social emotional curriculum at all grade levels. In order to best prepare our staff for using these new materials we have identified the following date as a 2 hour late opening.
*Winter 2-hour Late Opening:
The winter 2-hour late opening will be on Jan. 25th.
As a K-8 school, our K-5 staff will be focusing on implementing social and emotional support. Our 6-8 staff will be focused on the implementation of the new curriculum for advisory.
All students in grades K-8 will have a two hour late start on January 25th.
Thursday, 1/25 only:
10:38am – MYP (6th-8th) First Bell
10:45am – MYP (6th-8th) Classes Begin
10:53am – PYP (K-5th) First Bell
11:00am – PYP (K-5th) Classes Begin
Vernon Proud!

Upcoming Events
Conferences this Thurs. Jan.18
If you had a conference scheduled for today, your teacher will be in touch about re-scheduleing.
If you have other questions or need help with scheduling a conference reach out to your classroom teacher. For Middle School students the 6th Period Advisory Teacher is your point person.
Parent/teacher conferences are a great opportunity to meet your child's teacher, see your child's classroom and learn about how your child is doing in school. It's also a great time for you to ask questions or talk about any learning-related concerns. Creating a partnership with your child's teacher around your child's learning can make a big difference.

Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace: Enroll by Jan. 16, 2024
If you don’t qualify for the Oregon Health Plan and don’t get health insurance through your job, now through Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024 is an important time. It’s the only time of year most people can sign up for an individual or family plan to have coverage in 2024.
Get started by visiting OregonHealthCare.gov/WindowShop. This tool will allow you to preview programs, plans, and savings available to you; what plans will cover your current doctor; and how much your anticipated costs will be, including refilling your prescriptions.
The Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace helps connect Oregonians to health coverage and financial help through its federal partners at HealthCare.gov. It’s the only place where you can get financial help on monthly premiums and other out-of-pocket costs. Nearly 80 percent of Oregonians enrolled through the Marketplace in 2023 qualified for financial help – that could be you, too!
Want help? A health insurance expert can help you, at no cost, apply for financial help and enroll in coverage. You can find an expert near you at OregonHealthCare.gov/GetHelp.
For more information, visit OregonHealthCare.gov or call 855-268-3767 (toll-free).
