Dear KAS Community,

We are horrified and sickened about the recent events in Cherokee County, Georgia that killed eight people, including six women of Asian descent. This terrible event follows a period of increased harassment, abuse, and violence directed at Asian Americans in the USA. We wholeheartedly condemn these happenings.

我們對於最近發生在美國喬治亞州切羅基縣的槍擊案件感到震驚及心痛。該事件造成8人死亡其中更包含6名亞裔女性。這次可怕事件是發生在美國，近期針對亞裔美國人的騷擾、虐待和暴力行為有所增加。我們一心一意地譴責這些事件。

As an American school in Taiwan, we recognize not only the impact of these recent events on our students and community, but we also recognize the context that perpetuates these situations again and again, and our duty to affect positive change.

做為一所在台灣的美國學校，我們不僅認知到這些近期事件對我們的學生和社區的影響，而且我們還識別到了使這些情況一再延續的環境，以及我們要有正面改變的責任。

We must advance our work to create and reaffirm an inclusive and welcoming school community. One where students are affirmed in their identities, and where we all unite in our resolve to create a more just and humane future.

For middle school students and families, please plan to attend our Spring semester Student Led Conferences on April 1, 2021. We aim for 100% student and family participation so that parents may understand what students are learning, and the assignments and tasks that students are being asked to do. We hope that parents will ask many questions and examine student work. We also invite families to make appointments with teachers for individual meetings and check-ins. More information will be upcoming but please mark your calendars.

Many admissions decisions are coming out in the next few weeks! Please remember that your college counselor is here to help guide your decisions and answer your questions. Please make sure to reach out to meet with us. We are always happy to meet in person to help support you as you plan. Most decisions for U.S. schools will be announced by April 6, 2021. Keep checking your email and application portals. As decisions come in, it may help to read the words from Georgia Tech’s Admission Director, Rick Clark, about how it really does all work out in the end.

Baylor University will also be visiting KAS to meet with our students in person on Wednesday, March 31 from 3:15 - 4 pm in Rm 167 on 1F. Baylor is a leading research university with more than 140 undergraduate degrees including biology, nursing, accounting, psychology, and finance. Pre-med, computer Science and engineering are also very popular! Please join us to meet with their admissions staff.

With COVID, many of the summer programs our students enjoy have been moved to virtual or canceled. But good news - there are still some terrific opportunities to explore. Resources for G11 students 11年級學生的資源

Juniors now have access to lots of excellent resources on college applications through a shared Google Drive. Resources include information organized by country of application. There are also templates for staying organized, detailed instructions for CommonApp, timelines for planning, financial aid resources, sample interview questions and much much more. We will continue to add to these resources to support students in their process.
