The Dolphin Whistle
September 18, 2019 Issue 6
Thurs. September 19th is a Minimum Day! Pick up your children at 12:25 p.m.
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL LAMBERT
We are intensifying our focus on helping students to be on time and not to miss any school unless they are very sick. Please expect increased communications with you if your child is tardy for any reason without a doctor's note or is absent frequently. I encourage you to contact me or the office if there is anything we can do to support you in arriving on time to school.
It is important to leave early enough to allow time to:
- park far away from the school and walk the last few blocks
- take traffic congestion into account
- plan to arrive by 8:15 a.m. to beat the congestion in the school area and allow your child time to walk to the line on the blacktop
- If you have children at other schools, plan your morning routine for dropping off other children at other schools so that all arrive at their own school on time.
Students are tardy if they are not in line or at the classroom by when the bell rings
by 8:30 a.m. Arriving on time helps your child to feel part of the class and helps the teacher and classmates to have fewer interruptions.
Thank you to everyone who has not had any tardies at all this year!
Best Regards,
Theresa Lambert

Vision and Hearing
MVWSD will be bringing back Vision to Learn (VTL) to Castro this school year. VTL is a non-profit organization that provides free vision care to kids through the use of mobile vision clinics.
All students (grades K through 5th grade) will have a vision screening performed by the district nurses on Friday, September 27th. If you do not want your child to participate, please contact the school nurse. All students who do not pass the vision screening will receive an eye exam by the VTL optometrist. If you do not want your child to participate in the VTL program, there will be an opt-out form available in the next few weeks that you can complete and return to the school office. We will notify you of the date that Vision to Learn will be coming to campus in the next few weeks.
If you have additional questions, feel free to contact the school nurse at
650-526-3500 ext. 1051
The MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series presents: "The Orchid and the Dandelion: Why Some Children Struggle and How All Can Thrive" with W. Thomas Boyce, M.D. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019 - 7:00 - 9:00pm | MVHS Spartan Theatre | 3535 Truman Ave, Mountain View, CA.
Developmental pediatrician, Dr. Thomas Boyce, will delve into results from four decades of research and clinical practice – exploring his major discovery that reveals how both genetic make-up and environment shape behavior.
Dr. Boyce will explore how the “dandelion” child (hearty, resilient, healthy) is able to survive and flourish under most circumstances and the “orchid” child (sensitive, susceptible, fragile) when given the right support, can thrive as much as, if not more, than other children. Dr. Boyce will share how we as parents can better nurture and support the unique characteristics of both types of children.
