News from Mr. Hartmann . . .
Connecting with your kids after school is a top priority as a parent. But let's be real - pulling quality conversation out of a tired kiddo can feel like squeezing water from a stone. That's why at our school, we arm parents with strategic questions that tap into what really matters - their relationships, challenges, joys and curiosities.
Rather than the stale "How was school today?" try asking "Who made you laugh the hardest?" or "What was the most creative thing you did?" Kids will light up sharing a funny cafeteria moment or an arts and crafts masterpiece. For older students, spark introspection with "If you could change one thing about your day, what would it be?"
The goal isn't to interrogate - it's to guide and teach through conversation. When a child shares an experience of unkindness, we can help them reflect on how to respond next time. As they teach us a newly learned vocabulary word or historical fact, we strengthen their learning by having them explain it to someone else.
Kids crave being heard. The right questions convey to your child that you care - not just about grades and behavior, but their inner world too. That's how we nurture our relationships with them and, in turn, raise children who are in touch with themselves and ready to thrive

Devices should not be used as a method of communication during the school day. As with anything of value, the school is not liable for theft or damage.

Thank you to our Dedicated and Loyal Bus Drivers!!
This week was Bus Driver Appreciation Week and we are so grateful for all our drivers! We entrust our kids with them not only to get from point a to point b, but to also feel safe. Often, they are the first and the last contact a student has with our school. The simple connections between the drivers and the students make a difference. Thank you BHE bus drivers! Bluey is proud of you!
During Staff Appreciation week in May, we will formally aknoweldge our bus drivers. In the meantime, please know that we are fortunate to have such loyal and caring drivers.

"EYE"tastic Opportunity
by Olivia
Read on about a fantastic opportunity you shouldn't miss... You can donate your no longer used eyeglasses to help people of all ages who can't get any glasses to help their poor vision. You can be the person to help someone get the glasses they need to have a better life.
People who need glasses but don't have the resources to get the glasses they need have trouble learning at school or performing at their jobs. These people wish they could see better, and with your help, their wish will come true. Donating your no longer used eyeglasses can help one person, maybe more. What you will do with your donation shows you care about people who can't get eyeglasses. Donating that pair of old eyeglasses to someone in need gives people a new opportunity in their life.
Mr. Gutbrod's Grade 5 class and the Circle-Lex Lions' Club are working together with you to get those needed eyeglasses to people in developing countries. This is an opportunity you should think about participating in this year.
Please send your no longer used eyeglasses to Blue Heron Elementary c/o Mr. Gutbrod's Grade 5 Classroom. We'll do the rest. By taking the time to do this, you are making wishes come true. Thank you.
