Cowlitz Indian Tribal Public Safety Department, 31501 NW 31st Ave., Ridgefield (La Center Exit I-5, south of ilani Casino)
ommunity prevention coalitions, law enforcement and several partnering organizations are holding drive-thru drug take back events at six sites in Southwest Washington on Saturday, April 24th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Community members are encouraged to bring their unused and expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for safe, free disposal to any one of the six event sites in Clark and Skamania counties. Prescription and over-the-counter medications including pills, liquids and inhalers will be accepted. Medications may remain in original containers and labels do not need to be removed. Medications not in original containers will also be accepted.
For everyone’s safety, participants will remain in their vehicles and use a drive-thru process to dispose of unwanted and expired medications. All event sites will follow appropriate COVID-19 safety guidelines for social distancing, face coverings, sanitizing and disinfecting.

Vape pens and e-cigarettes
All event sites except Cowlitz Indian Tribal Public Safety Department will be collecting vape pens and e-cigarettes without batteries for safe free disposal. Unable to drop- off your medicine for proper disposal at one of the six event sites on April 24th?
No problem! There are a variety of permanent community-based medicine disposal kiosks open all year-round. To find a kiosk in your area, visit the Convenient Locations section of Med-Project.org. Mail-back medicine disposal services are also available in Washington state. To order a free mail-back package, visit the Mail-Back section of Med-Project.org. Do not place medicines in the trash or recycling, and never flush them down the toilet. Medication not disposed of properly ends up in the environment and our waterways and increases the risk for accidental poisonings, misuse and overdose. Let’s work together to protect the environment, waterways and our loved ones by disposing of unused and unwanted medicine for free at convenient community-based kiosks or by using a mail-back service.

New Community Member Welcome Basket
3 Ways to participate
La Center United is putting together "Welcome Baskets" for new arrivals to our town and we need your help:
1) would like to collect flyers from all the local businesses, churches, groups, etc. (along with some swag) to help them feel the love of La Center. If you know of any of these people or groups that would be interested. Please message me or any La Center United member to connect (~50 1-page flyers should be plenty), or email us at lacenterunited@gmail.com with "welcome basket" in the subject line.
2) We are looking for volunteers to help put these baskets together and are currently meeting virtually on Wednesdays at 7 PM to get organized.
3) And, we need a way to "know" when new families move in so the baskets can be delivered. That's you all--have a new neighbor, let us know!!

Adopt a Teacher
Adopt a Teacher
A message from community member Connie Baker:
The past year has been anything but normal, and I want to do something to show my appreciation to our teachers for all they've gone through to get where they are now with back to hybrid classes.
So, I am asking for your help, anyone here can adopt a teacher, you can either specify one or donate to a random teacher in our little town.
I am planning to get these all together to deliver during teacher appreciation week, which is the first week of May. If we get more than 20, we will just honor more teachers.
So... please email me if you're interested in donating or would like more information.

The Prevent Washington State Rural network is seeking photos
What does your community look like? Submit photos today!
What do rural communities look like?
What does it mean to be rural?
What are the greatest strengths in your community?
We would like to capture all of the above, and more, in photos of rural communities across the state. We're building an online "stock photo library" of pictures that rural community members, like you, submit to us.
There is a significant lack of representation in marketing and promotional materials that accurately reflect rural lifestyle and culture. We would like to address this together so that our partners, supporters, and members can use appropriate images in prevention campaigns, fliers, posters, social media, and more.
Click here to submit your photos!
All images will be reviewed by our Toolkit Workgroup committee before being included in our online toolkit. The online toolkit should be published in June of 2021. Any images of youth or minors will require a permission form that can be signed online by parents and guardians at the time of submission, or at a later date.
Share Your Story
The Rural Network is gathering stories of success and innovation to create an online gallery of ways people have overcome obstacles, adapted prevention materials, or created new implementation strategies for prevention.
Take the five question survey to help us get a sense of what's working in your area.
Eventually, all submissions will be available online in a gallery that will help members and prevention practitioners become more innovative in their approaches to this work.
