Happy December-Key Reminders
Start Time-7:35 AM
A reminder that school starts at 7:35 AM. Its expected that students are in class ready to learn at 7:35 AM. Students who arrive late to the school building, need to check in to the Attendance Office and get a Tardy Slip.
Attendance Reminder
Parents/Guardians:
If students need to leave early during the school day for an appointment. Please call the Attendance Line in the morning with the time you want your student to leave.
Students will receive an Early Dismissal slip to their classroom and they will meet you @ Attendance Office at the time specified. This will help students be ready to go when you arrive.
Students MUST sign out with the Attendance Office when they leave the building early.
Attendance Line: 253 983-2303
Student ID/ASB Cards
All students now have a School ID card. Students are required to have these on them during the school day. Any student who enters the building after the start of the school day is REQUIRED to show their Student ID/ASB Card when entering the building and must check in with the Attendance Office. This includes all Running Start Students who come onto campus. A picture of the Current Student ID Card on the student's phone is acceptable. This helps make sure we know who is on campus.
Communication
Sentinel Center Closing
Running Start Students,
Please be advised that we will be closing the Sentinel Center to all student use after winter break. There are two main reasons for this change, which I am happy to share...
The location of the Sentinel Center is immediately adjacent to all four of our on-campus school counselors, our military and family life counselor, and our behavioral health assistant. As you may imagine, there is often a high amount of traffic in this area and students receiving scheduled or emergent services need more privacy than we can provide with an audience of peers using the same hallway space.
There is no direct adult supervision for the students who may be in the Sentinel Center which presents a problem for our emergency management procedures. Not only are we responsible for knowing the location of all students on our campus, we also have a duty to reasonably supervise students in an effort to provide a safe working environment.
Running Start students who elect to be on campus when they are not at Pierce College will now utilize the library. This will provide a check-in/check-out procedure for our students, as well as an adult who can manage and monitor the space consistently, while still providing a comfortable location to complete academic work. This change will start after we return from winter break, Monday, January 8, 2024.

The group lasts for six weeks and will be led by Sarah Menard, Behavior Health Assistant, and Brittany Castignanie, Freshman Counselor. More opportunities for groups will be available throughout the year. Please reach out to Sarah Menard if you are interested in your student joining a group. smernard@steilacoom.k12.wa.us.
