School Bus Procedures - Take Note
Parents, this is a reminder that students are prohibited from using items during the operation of the school bus which might interfere with the school bus communications equipment or the school bus driver’s operation of the bus per the Fulton County Code of Conduct Rule 20: Interference with School Bus. Please take this opportunity to discuss with your children.
All code of conduct rules applies on school provided transportation and at school bus stops. Students may not violate any direction of the school bus driver. Students may not disrupt the environment of the bus or bus stop in any manner, including but not limited to loud or boisterous behavior; failure to remain silent at railroad crossings; using emergency exits improperly; riding an unauthorized bus; disembarking at an unauthorized stop; throwing objects in the bus, or into or out of the bus; extending body parts or objects outside of the bus; drinking/eating/chewing gum; interference with District recording equipment; [failure to wear seat belts where fitted on buses, or unbuckling of seat belts before reaching the destination,] and failure to remain seated.
Additionally, students are prohibited from using items during the operation of a school bus in a manner which might interfere with the school bus communications equipment or the school bus driver's operation of the bus. These items include but are not limited to cell phones; pagers; audible radios; tape or compact disc players without head-phones; mirrors; lasers, or flash cameras. (Consequences may include confiscation of device.) Cell phone use will not be allowed during the operation of the bus because it interferes with the operational technology. However, cell phones may be used with the special permission of the principal, supervising teacher, or bus driver while the student is on the bus waiting to depart the starting location or when the bus returns to its final destination after athletic events, fields trips, or other special situation deemed appropriate by the principal, supervising teacher, or bus driver.
Thank you,
Mr. Trey Martin
Principal

Parents of Rising 9th Graders
All 8th grade students will attend one of three scheduled transition tours to Johns Creek High School during the week of January 21, 2020. Students will be assigned a day to visit the school with their first period class. The JCHS counselors will also be meeting with students on these days to discuss course electives.
We are excited about the opportunity for the students to explore the school layout, learn about course offerings, and ask questions.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Santos, 8th grade counselor, at santosd@fultonschools.org.
Thank you.

In this film we will learn the science behind the emotional challenges teenagers face, as well as what can be done in our schools and homes to help build the skills to navigate stress, anxiety and depression. Every single one of our homes is affected by social media and screens. Our goal is to provide guidance and support to Autrey Mill parents and our students.
Join us Thursday, January 23rd at 6:00 pm. Teenagers are welcome!

All-State Orchestra Auditions Big Success
On Saturday, January 11, 2020 nearly 1200 middle and high school orchestra students from all over the state converged on a performing arts center in Jonesboro for the 2020 All-State Orchestra auditions. Twenty eight of these students were from Autrey Mill, having passed a district level audition back in October. Of these twenty eight AMMS Orchestra students we are thrilled to share that fifteen have passed the audition and will be performing with one of the two 2020 Georgia All-State Orchestras in March!
This is a tremendous honor and speaks to the dedication and all the hard work they put in to prepare for this very challenging audition. Congratulations to Kaitlyn B., William C., Andrew H., Michael H., Kyle J., Ellen K., Geonhee L., Amber L., Jennifer P., Abhay S., Chloe S., Audrey S., Jeffrey X., Ramond X., and Youyou Z!
AMMS Blue Out
We are gearing up for this year’s Blue Out, where students get to play basketball against a faculty team, all in the name of charity!
Blue Out basketballs will be sold for $1.00 each in front of the Media Center in the mornings. Just like a raffle, students will write their names on the basketballs they purchase and deposit them in the appropriate grade level containers. The more students purchase, the greater their chances of being chosen to play against the teachers.
FIGHT Club members will draw 4 names from each grade level. Those students will play against the teachers in an exciting, action-packed game on February 12th.
Last year over $400 was raised for the American Cancer Society! We encourage both students and teachers to get involved in this fun event.
Where: AMMS Gym
When: Wednesday, February 12th immediately after school
Time: 4:30 p.m. Teacher vs Student Game in the gym
5ish half time dance performance from PE Dance ALL Stars lead by Coach Davis
5:30 p.m. Girls AMMS vs Hopewell
6:30 p.m. Boys AMMS vs Hopewell (after the girl’s game)
PBIS Rewards Program
It’s a new semester at the Mill, and we are ringing in the new year with the rollout of our PBIS rewards program. In the fall, we began teaching students our expectations according to our school wide matrix. This semester, students can earn digital points for meeting these expectations of responsibility and respectfulness. Points earned may be redeemed for prizes, school-wide events, special passes, and snacks.
7th Grade Rock Eagle Trip
We are proud to offer the Autrey Mill seventh grade students an exciting and educational trip to Rock Eagle 4H Center in Eatonton, GA. The Rock Eagle Trip will take place March 18th – March 20th.
We will be leaving from school on March 18th and returning in the afternoon of March 20th. We will have approximately 25-30 staff chaperones accompanying the students. We will travel to Rock Eagle in luxury motor coaches.
The cost of the trip is $190.00. All students who would like to participate will be given the opportunity to do so. We feel all students will benefit from this activity; however, attendance is not required and in no way affects a student's instruction or evaluation. We do reserve the right to cancel this field trip if sufficient money is not available to cover all costs.
Please contact Dr. Mimi Gamel (gamel@fultonschools.org) with any questions or concerns.
