This year was the first collaborative effort with other TRiO Programs on WMU campus; Student Support Service, Upward Bound, and MI GEAR UP. As a group, we decided to host our first National TRiO Day celebration!
During Friday's program, it consist of a taco bar dinner, and an opportunity for Upward Bound students to hear from current WMU undergrad SSS and MI GEAR UP students about their transition to college. There was also an opportunity for current undergrad students to hear from WMU TRiO Alums about life after graduation. The night concluded on the topic of "Rise Up" spoken by key note speaker, Tim Terrentine, the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations.
On Saturday, SSS, MI GEAR UP, and Upward Bound students volunteered at Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes, Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, and the Northside Association for Community Development for their community service project. This was a fun and exciting opportunity and everyone enjoyed their experience.
National TRiO Day was a great success, and we would like to thank those who attended the event!
