Principal Message
There are so many spotlights below so my message this week is to encourage you to scroll down a little and look at all the wonderful things that are happening in our building and community.
Interested in trying a new meal? How about Boneless Wing Day! See updates about next weeks meals in the Food Services section of the Newsletter.
Happy Veterans Day — Veterns Day is a day to pay tribute to all military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Originating in 1919 when President Woodrow Wilson marked a year since the end of the First World War, the day coincides with other days of remembrance around the world including Armistice Day in the United Kingdom and Remembrance Day across the Commonwealth of Nations. Some of you may notice that we fly the flag at full service because it is a day of celebration.
Some events that are coming up in the next few weeks are:
- Makeup Picture Day - 11/17
- Fall Break - 11/20-11/24
- Winter HS Sports Begin 11/27
Have a great weekend Commodores!

Students spent the day learning about the history and legacy of abolitionist John Brown, including his connections to Vergennes. This was for the Racial and Social Justice course.

The Walden Project was awash with visitors over the last month or so, culminating with a visit from Michael Fredrick Executive Director of The International Thoreau Society and students and faculty from The Walden Project NY based out of the Cimmings Nature Center in Rochester, New York. Gathering in the Walden outdoor classroom from November 6-8, students delved deeply into Transcendentalism, creative writing, and the increasing and continued relevance of place-based education. The visit concluded with an evening of pizza and poetry by the fire, where Walden Project students Oak Fonte, Ella Vinek-Payne, Lily Root, and Elsa Michaels shared original artistic stylings with the 50 people who braved the elements to celebrate this special creative community.

Athletics and Pete Maneen
The snow on the ground this morning sure made the winter sports season feel that much closer!
The winter coaches meeting took place this week and the practice schedule has been completed. I have attached the practice schedule (subject to change) to this email and it can also be found in the attached athletic information presentation. Included in the presentation is important information around registrations, athletic & school policies, playing time, coaches contact information, etc. Please take a moment to read through the presentation so you are aware of any and all expectations for students & adults.
It is always important to remind players & fans (students & adults) about the expectation of positive behavior. Athletic events are opportunities to watch our students compete, they are not opportunities to heckle and harass players, coaches or officials. Please be aware of your comments and actions and keep the attention where it should be...on the players giving it their all! Being a sports parent is hard, I struggle with it just as much as anyone. Here is a great interview with an NCAA coach talking about being a sports parent, it's worth the watch.
I look forward to a great winter season and seeing you all in the stands.
