PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, December 15th
MAP testing officially finished this week! The students handled everything really well and I am very proud of them!
Our 5th Graders had an amazing "Musical Kickoff" event last night! It is going to be an amazing show and I cannot wait until May!
We have many fun things planned for our last week before break next week and we are looking forward to our super fun Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R) event on the afternoon of Friday, December 22nd!
I wanted to share the most recent display that our exceptional Multlingual Learner Teacher, Liz Gabianelli, has created for our students! This "Festival of Lights" display helps to explain the various upcoming holidays, the backgrounds and rituals associated with them and their meaning. I know our Panthers learn a lot from these displays and this one certainly helped generate a festive feeling in the commons!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

ABC/25 MEMBERSHIP (NEW POST!)
PLEASE HELP! PATTON ONLY NEEDS 9 FAMILIES TO SIGN UP TO REACH OUR GOAL!!
Founded in 1991, the ABC/25 Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to enhancing District 25. Its mission is to inspire innovation, creativity, and excellence for District 25 children. Comprising district parents, community leaders, and school administrators, the volunteer Board and committee drive positive change. With over 30 years of impact, the foundation has raised nearly two million dollars, funding projects and grants that empower District 25 students and teachers. In fact, a couple of our own teachers just received grants from the ABC/25 Foundation! Mr. Whitaker was able to purchase a whole consensus of ukuleles and a beautiful stand to house them. (Trivia fans: keep the collective noun for Ukuleles being "a consensus" as a potential future winning trivia answer! You're welcome!) and Mrs. Hiller was given a grant to purchase floor seating for her classroom to make circle time a bit more comfy for her students! Our LMC will be adding a significant number of books to its collection as well. These grants are so helpful, useful and appreciated! If Patton joins the other 7 District 25 schools that have already met the goal, ABC25 will award us a school grant of $2,500.00. Last year we were able to use this grant to purchase a poster maker for the school which has allowed teachers more flexibility and creativity in designing and using posters to enhance instruction for our Panthers.
PANTHERS IN PROGRESS (NEW POST!)
During this year of construction, when many outcomes are outside of our control, our goal here at Patton is to remember that we are striving for "Progress over Perfection"! Every day our Panthers get to look at our "Panthers in Progress" display and see all the wonderful ways we are progressing this year! From learning how to subtract double zeros (Way to go Mrs Cowen's Class!!) to helping Mrs Maloney get her Master's Degree (Hooray Mrs Maloney and Mrs Goumas' Class!!) It is a great visual reminder for everyone that we are ALL on this journey together this year and we really do value PROGRESS over PERFECTION! I even heard that some of our Panthers used "Panthers in Progress" as their cheer when they were volunteering recently at Feed My Starving Children. We are thrilled to know they are thinking of our theme both in and out-of-school. Each of our Panthers has made progess in so many ways already during this school year. We can't wait to see what 2024 will bring!
FEBRUARY PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES (NEW POST!)
Believe it or not, Parent/Teacher conferences will be here before we know it! February conferences will take place on Thursday, February 15th and Friday, February 16th. On Sunday, January 14th our signup genius link will be live and emailed to you at 7pm.
These conferences are always a great way for you to connect with your child/ren's teacher, spend a bit of time in the classroom and really hear how they're getting on! We appreciate the ongoing partnership and collaboration shared in the Patton community. Please note that there is one conference time for each student.
Fourth and fifth grade parents: The conference times are for meeting with your child's homeroom teacher. If your child has a different teacher for math and you have specific math questions, please email him or her.
PATTON SPIRIT WEEK - MONDAY - FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18th-22nd (2nd POST!)
Our awesome student council always likes to celebrate the last week before winter break with some fun Spirit Days! As always, please do not feel any pressure to do all (or ANY!) of these! We know this is a busy time of year!
MATH CONTEST WINNERS! (FINAL POST!)
Mrs Cioni is delighted to announce the winners of the 4th and 5th Grade ICTM Math Contests! All the students have had such fun this session and are looking forward to February when it returns!
LOST AND FOUND - EVERYTHING MUST GO! (UPDATED POST!)
ALERT! NEW ITEMS ADDED!!
Believe it or not, even though it has only been a few weeks since we donated our entire lost and found, we are already overflowing with hoodies and hats and coats galore!
As the weather gets a bit chillier, I'm sure some of these items will come in VERY handy so please do remind your child/ren to come and take a look.
Parents/guardians/care givers are also welcome to come in and take a look as we know that students aren't always the best at remembering to come and have a look or recognizing their lost items.
All items will be donated before winter break. Feel free to stop by at other times or if you recognize something in the NEW PHOTOS, let your child's teacher know your child has something to claim in the lost and found. We will help them collect their missing items.
Please know, we do always go through each item to look for a name and any items that are labelled are returned to the student straight away!
Beginning December 18th, we will pack up remaining items to donate before winter break.
HOMEWORK CLUB - DECEMBER (Ongoing POST!)
Homework club is returning for December!! This is a wonderful space and opportunity for students to catch up on some homework, enjoy quiet reading time and ask for help if they need it!
This will run Thursday 7th, 14th and 21st December.
If your child is interested, please SIGN UP HERE and be sure to enter your child's name when signing up! There are only a few spots remaining each week!
PARENT ACADEMY (Ongoing Post)
The District recently launched its new Parent Academy newsletter and page on the website.

We welcome parents and families to engage in various activities and events to explore topics related to mental health, well-being, equity and inclusion, and academics. Please visit the website (www.sd25.org/ParentAcademy) for archived newsletters, further resources and information, or to submit an idea/topic for the next Parent Academy newsletter.
