A Note From the HTMS Nurse....

Dear Parents,

If your child is sick, please keep them at home. If they have 2 or more COVID symptoms please reach out to your pediatrician. A doctor’s note will be needed for symptomatic students to return to campus. Keep in mind that often times Covid symptoms are mild in students this age such as (but not limited to) headache, congestion, runny nose, fatigue, or sore throat.

If your child tests POSITIVE or has been EXPOSED to a positive case:

· Contact the school nurse and the clinic will notify teachers and the office.

· The nurse will determine your child’s return to school date.

· Quarantine time is 10-day for a positive test or 14 day for a positive exposure

· With the positive result on file, your child will not be quarantined due to an exposure for 90 days, but will be sent home if symptoms are present.

· If you child is in quarantine due to an exposure a positive antibody test or a negative test will NOT replace the quarantine.

· Keep other siblings’ home from school and notify that child’s school nurse.

**If you have a positive COVID case in your home and the student is not isolated from the positive person this will extend their quarantine.

Please contact the school nurse for any questions.

Congratulations to HTHS Student Alex Posey as the Volunteer Spotlight in Children's Of Alabama Newsletter

Positions: Emergency Dept., Nursing Ambassador 10, and COVID Screening Tables

Hours of Service: over 110 hours

Why do you enjoy volunteering at Children's of Alabama?

My favorite part about volunteering at Children's is being surrounded by great people who are dedicated to helping children in need, however they can. Also a favorite is the smile that is produced by scanning a kid's stuffed animal’s temperature then giving it a sticker.

What is your advice to new volunteers?

My advice to new volunteers is to be understanding, stay calm, and be nice. Having to take your child to a hospital along with navigating through a huge building like Children's would stress anyone out, so a kind voice can really help a parent.

What do you most look forward to when the pandemic is over?

The number one thing I'm looking forward to after the pandemic is socializing, particularly high-fives and fist bumps from patients while volunteering.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Alex Posey, Teen Volunteer

Positions: Nursing Ambassador 10 & COVID Screening Tables

Hours of Service: over 41 hours

Why do you enjoy volunteering at COA?

I enjoy volunteering at children’s because it makes me feel as though I am one step closer to my career. Getting that hands on experience at Children’s is the best thing because you are able to connect with the patients just as much as the staff does.

What is your advice to new volunteers?

Begin to Explore! My advice to new volunteers is to not be scared and to do things that will help. Being scared might hold you back and that’s not how you want to be in a hospital setting.

What do you most look forward to when the pandemic is over?

When the pandemic is over I want to go travel whether that is across the country or across the sea!

HTMS Celebrates Generosity and Inclusive Schools Week

PACE: Generosity &

Inclusive Schools Week Activity

In December, all HTMS students watched a video prepared by our MUSH Mentors on Generosity and ways that we can include everyone, especially those who are different from us.

After watching the video, students traced their hands and wrote about something they could do to include or be more generous to others.

The hands were then put onto this large display showing others that:

TOGETHER, AT HTMS, WE CAN MAKE THE WORLD A KINDER AND MORE GENEROUS PLACE FOR EVERYONE.
