Pirates Post
Week of December 4th
Message from Principal Drew...
This is the last full week of classes before final exams. Exams will take place on December 14-20. An exam schedule will be posted on our Facebook page and our school website on Tuesday of this week. Students that are exempt from an exam do not need to attend school for that exam period. Teachers will notify students if they are exempt. In order to be exempt a student must have a 80 or above and 3 or less unexcused absences or a 90 or above and 5 or less unexcused absences in a class. Any student that has served a full day of ISS or OSS can not be exempt from any exams. Students in Biology, Math 1, Math 3, English 2 or a CTE course can not exempt their final exam at all.
Parents, as we approach final exams there are a few reminders that we need your support with prior to students taking final exams.
1. Cell phones, smart watches and other electronic devices must be turned in prior to the start of testing. All items will be stored securely and returned once the testing session has been completed.
2. Students will not be able to leave a testing site until the testing session has ended for the entire school. Students should bring a book to read or be prepared to wait quietly until the exam period is completed.
3. If students wish to check out early after the exam period has ended they must bring a hand written note to the main office before the exam period begins. That note must include a parent signature and permission to leave once the exam period has been completed. We do not have the ability to accept email, text messages or phone calls to excuse students.
PCHS will have early release days for all students on December 18th, 19th and 20th. Students will be released at 12:30 on these days.

NC State Superintendent's Student Advisory Council: Application
State Superintendent's Student Advisory Council Now Accepting Applications
High school juniors are invited to apply to serve as a Student Advisor on Superintendent Catherine Truitt's Student Advisory Council. If you are interested in state education issues, advocating on behalf of your fellow peers, and serving as an advisor to decision-makers in K-12 education, this opportunity is for you!
Advisory members meet monthly and serve a two-year term that concludes at the end of senior year of high school. Throughout the appointment, advisors hear from experts at the Department of Public Instruction, State Board of Education, the General Assembly, and the Governor's Office, among others, to learn about issues facing our state and what can be done to support students, teachers and our local school districts and charter schools.
At the conclusion of each year, advisors will present a proposal to address an evolving state education issue to the Superintendent among other state leaders.
The deadline to apply is December 15. Learn more and apply here.
