JANUARY 3, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Hello Northpoint Families!
I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and is rested and ready for the second half of the school year! After a longer break, sometimes students need a few days to refocus on being back in school, re-establishing relationships, routines, and expectations. Teachers will also take time to refocus on the learning that took place before break started.
As we get rolling into a new calendar year, just a few reminders about drop off and pick up. When dropping students off in the morning, you do not have to wait until the front of the line to drop your child off. Whether you are the 2nd or 7th in line, if you are next to the sidewalk, they can hop out and head on up to the front of the school. If you prefer to get out of the car with your child(ren) or want to wait until 9:10 a.m. for them to head into school, please utilize the parking lot to wait and then walk them up to the front of the building.
At the end of the day, if you are in the drive up line, please have a sign with your students’ name(s) visible for staff. This will help us get students out to cars faster and keep the line moving. Also, if there is space, always pull all the way up to the sign or the car in front of you. Please do not stop at the sidewalk where students are waiting, they will follow the sidewalk up to meet you at your vehicle.
While there is limited snow on the ground, this is the snowiest trimester of the year. Check out a few reminders below about winter weather as we start a new calendar year. Thank you for your partnership with these items, it truly helps the school day operate much more smoothly.

Sealant Day at Northpoint will take place Jan. 18
Northpoint will be hosting the Minnesota School Sealant Program, where your child has the opportunity to receive free or reduced cost preventive dental services at school. A licensed dental professional will be offering sealants, cleanings, and fluoride varnishes to students.
The School Sealant Day will be on Thursday, January 18 for grades PreK-4. In order to be eligible to receive these services, you need to fill out this consent form with your child's information and return it to school. Please turn in consent form by January 8.
Please contact the Northpoint office with questions at 763-600-5700.
Snow days: Important reminders
There may not be much snow on the ground (yet), but this is a good time of year for a few reminders about how we handle weather:
- Spring Lake Park Schools makes every possible effort to keep schools open, in most weather conditions, if bus travel is safe. Unless we announce otherwise, assume school is in session. We will not send a "Yes, we are open for school" message. School is in session until you hear or see differently from Spring Lake Park Schools.
- Spring Lake Park Schools will communicate any school closures due to weather directly to families and high school students as quickly as possible after the decision is made. Communication is sent via email, text and voicemail based on parent/guardian preferences. To update your contact information, including phone numbers or email addresses, please log in to Campus Parent portal. You may also contact the main office of your child’s school. Emergency alerts are also posted on our website as an emergency alert popup AND shared with local news outlets.
- If school is cancelled for the day, there will be no instruction for the day unless a flexible learning day is communicated. Flexible learning days will only be considered if we have multiple weather-related closures this winter.
The decision to close schools is a difficult one and one we know greatly impacts families. To find more information about how we make weather-related decisions and to see answers to frequently asked questions, visit the School Closings and Alerts page.
Recess Reminders
All K-4 students go outside each school day for recess unless the weather does not cooperate. Students will need a written note from a physician to be excused from recess. Students are expected to dress for the season, including wearing boots, snow pants and coats during the winter months.
We cancel outdoor recess when the outside temperature is 0 degrees and/or the wind-chill factor is -10 degrees F, if the conditions are extremely icy or sloppy, or if it is raining and/or lightning.

Creature Feature inventions
Students in grades 1-2 finished their "Creature Features" reading module by inventing a never-before-seen animal as a performance assessment! They incorporated all the knowledge they learned about animal's unique features, informational writing, and nonfiction text features to create an informative booklet detailing what this animal looks like, eats, where it lives, and then used clay to create a model of their creature. They then had a museum where other classes came to see/hear all about their creatures!
