Happy New Year!

Change is often unexpected. Educating our nations most challenged scholars though a pandemic is an incredible task. The changes we have made this past year where monumental, and in many ways empowering to what we do as educators. We as a staff have expanded our skill sets exponentially.

The question is how will we continue to integrate and apply these new skills to meet the evolving needs of our scholars, and the changing dynamics of the system as a whole. It is my hope that our change will be an evolution in to something even better than we had before this all began. We have a winning team that is in the process of overcoming one of the biggest challenges our nation has ever faced. I am excited to start a new chapter.

Our focus this month will be Goal Setting. What goals do you have for the new year? This week in PLCs plan on discussing your goals as an individual educator and as a team. Focus our scholars to think about their goals as well, as individuals and as a class. Without a clear endpoint it's impossible to map a pathway to success.

Tomorrow will be a day filled with collaboration and learning. Please come to tomorrow's PD session prepared with your NWEA login. We will be accessing the site.

Resource Pick-up

We still have many students that are still in need of the resources that were passed out at the December Gift Give-Away. Please remind students and families to pick them up.

K-3:

The Aimsweb Winter Benchmark window opens Tuesday, January 5th and lasts through Friday, January 22nd. This means we actually only have 10 in-class days to complete this huge task. More details will follow.

Winter NWEA Testing

The window for the Winter NWEA testing has been pushed back to begin Tuesday, January 26th and go through Friday, February 26th. I have a testing meeting on January 12th and will have more details after that time.

Hello team,

Just a few reminders: I sent out a copy of the Fluid Learning Form with directions on how to access along with what to indicate on the form if students are not making progress on their IEP goals in this remote setting. Please check you last email. I also sent out a PD video regarding the Fluid Learning document which was titled Fluid Learning Document and Process. There has been a couple of questions regarding students who are making adequate progress and if we are to still fill out the fluid learning forms? I was told in our last Liaison meeting that we were supposed to attach a copy to all students IEP’s on our caseload and indicate somewhere if students are making progress or not. I looked at the forms and noticed that they are very lengthy! I reached out to Jessica to get more information on exactly what we do when students are making progress.

Liaison Notes November 2020:

-Special education students will get priority when it is safe to return to school.

-Students in a single classroom environment will get priority for the most in person learning once it is safe to return.

-Nothing has changed, we will be in remote learning until at least January

-Are we reconvening teams for students who are not making progress?

What are we doing as a team? How are we engaging students?

We need to make sure that we are bring teams together to see why students are not making progress.

What is our data telling us… Need to reach out to whomever we can to help students make progress.

The Engagement Team is continually to work to support you and our students in our remote learning. We are making phone calls and troubleshooting technology issues. Please refer to the link below to submit referral to the Engagement Team. You will get an email update within 24 hours of submitting.

Reminder: We are asking that teachers do not refer families to come to the school when a tech need arises. Please fill out the Support Form on their behalf or you can direct them to call the school. Although the office is open, the expectation is that families make an appointment.

NEW! Rebooting Remote Learning Devices – Please advise families, and students to reboot their devices. Due to the restoration of the outage that occurred yesterday this reboot will refresh access into their software platforms (i.e. Teams). Please use these instructions for guidance on restarting student devices.

I am attaching a link to a folder of resources for using the "Connect Transperfect" translation service to communicate with our families. The expectation is that you use this service to communicate with any family that needs it. I had an opportunity to use it this week and it is extremely user friendly and effective.
