Inside Centennial Schools
October 13, 2023
Connecting. Achieving. Preparing.
The Great Apple Crunch: October 12
In honor of Farm to School Month, Centennial Schools participated in the Great Apple Crunch on October 12 during lunch. Apples, provided by Pinetree Apple Orchard, White Bear Lake were available to all students. Students were encouraged to wear plaid, dressing for the occasion to support our local farmers!
Making Connections and Having Fun
Centennial Middle School Student Council hosted a party for sixth grade students after school on October 5. Around 375 students attended the event where they enjoyed building new relationships with classmates while having fun! Students loved the large inflatables, open gym, bracelet making, coloring, games, and snacks. A shout out to Matt from the Centennial Library who led brain games, and to our parents and high school volunteers!
Let Them Play!
Early childhood staff presented the Let Them Play conference, a professional development opportunity for staff, at the Minnesota Children's Museum. With support from the PrairieCare Fund and the Centennial Area Education Foundation, this year's theme was "Supporting Children's Mental Health through Play." Participants from Centennial Early Childhood Family Education, Preschool, Early Childhood Special Education, and Kids Club - together with professionals from 20 other school districts and child care organizations - learned techniques for supporting students from guest speakers. Between sessions, staff explored the museum to see how they could put these new tools into practice.
"Let Them Play 2023 was a beautiful opportunity for Centennial Early Childhood and School Age Care Staff to learn and connect with each other about how mental health strategies can be taught through play and joyful learning," said Sara Ison, Early Childhood and Centennial Preschool coordinator. "I loved seeing so many talented educators all in one place with the same goal in mind - supporting children and families!"
