Testing at DHS

College and military entrance exams can play a very important part in planning for a student's future. There are two college entrance exams: the SAT and the ACT. The ASVAB is a test available to any student interested in joining the military after graduation. Deciding which test to take is something that should be researched and discussed with your counselor. Both are accepted at almost all colleges.

The SAT is a standardized college admissions test.

It is widely accepted by most colleges and universities. The SAT has two parts (math and language arts). ***Please be aware, students that receive test accommodations through an IEP or 504 plan, MUST submit a signed SSD Consent form to their counselor 2 months prior to any chosen test date. Form can be found below. This cannot be rushed, so please plan ahead to let DHS know you intend to test.

The ACT is a standardized college admissions test.

It is widely accepted by most colleges and universities. The ACT has four parts: Reading Comprehension, Math, English, and Science.

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)

ASVAB is a multiple choice test used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States Armed Forces.

PSAT/NMSQT & PSAT 8/9

Both of these tests serve as a practice test for the SAT.


The PSAT/NMSQT is available to both 10th and 11th grade students in the Fall and is used as a National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. For more Information about PSAT/NMSQT click HERE. The PSAT 8/9 is available to all 9th grade students in the Spring. For more information about PSAT 8/9 click HERE.


A small fee applies to both test options. Once dates are announced, students can sign up with their guidance counselor. Payment is made through SchoolCashOnline (Payment information can be found at the bottom of this page).

*SPACE IS LIMITED and these test spaces are handled on a first come, first serve basis. It is always best to sign up early!


**REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE for each test as follows:

  • PSAT NMSQT - Registration closes on September 15th (Accommodation requests are due by August 18)
  • PSAT 8/9 - Spring Registration dates are not available yet

Available to 10th graders

PreACT 10 provides students in 10th grade with a structured testing environment similar to what they will experience when taking the ACT.


Once Test Dates are announced, students can sign up to test with their guidance counselor. There is a small fee to take this test. Payment is made through SchoolCashOnline (Payment information can be found at the bottom of this page).

ALL AP Students

The AP Program offers college-level courses and exams that you can take in high school.


Your AP score could earn you college credits.


“AP” on your high school transcript shows colleges you're motivated to succeed, and taking the exam can demonstrate your commitment to tackle and complete college-level work.


Testing is offered in the Spring each year. A fee applies to all AP tests. Payment is made through SchoolCashOnline (Payment information can be found at the bottom of this page).

Deadlines associated with AP testing are listed at the bottom of this page with Important Dates.

🚩🚩🚩IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS FOR ALL WEEKEND TESTING🚩🚩🚩

Students will NOT be admitted without their required photo IDs, regardless of school enrollment. ALL students testing MUST bring the required items outlined on the WEEKEND Test Tickets provided from CollegeBoard and ACT.


Students and Parents are fully responsible for accessing and reading emails sent by College Board and ACT with regards to WEEKEND TESTING. All test cancellations, location changes and other adjustments to test day plans will come directly from CollegeBoard and ACT.

DCPS and DHS will not be able to provide WEEKEND TEST information as this comes directly from CollegeBoard and ACT.


CALCULATORS will NOT be provided for WEEKEND testing. Students are responsible for bringing a calculator from the preapproved list of calculators that is provided directly from CollegeBoard and ACT at the time of registration.


CHARGED TESTING DEVICES are the responsibility of the student on a WEEKEND test day. DCPS and DHS will not have additional devices or charging cords available for WEEKEND testing. Students can contact COLLEGEBOARD or ACT ahead of test day to arrange for a device to be provided on Test Day. This must be done in advance.

Important Dates 2024-2025

PSAT/NMSQT Test Registration and Payment Due Date - August 19, 2024 for accommodated testing and September 15, 2024 for non-accommodated testing.


PSAT 8/9 Test Registration and Payment Due Date- January 29, 2025 for accommodated testing and February 18, 2025 for non-accommodated testing.

AP Test Registration and Fee Payment Due Date -

FALL AP Students- November 7, 2025

  • Semester 1 AP Students will incur a late registration fee of $40 after November 7, 2025
  • Semester 1 AP students that have signed up, but not paid for the test by this deadline will be removed from the test on this date. No exceptions can be made.
  • There is a $40 cancellation fee for Semester 1 AP students who cancel any AP test after November 12, 2025.


SPRING AP Students- March 6, 2026

  • Semester 2 students that have not paid or set up a payment plan by March 6 will be removed from the test.
  • No student can be registered for any AP test after March 6, 2025.
  • There is a $40 cancellation fee for Semester 2 AP students who cancel any AP test after March 12, 2025.

Fee Reduction Eligibility

Students wishing to apply for reduced fee testing will need to print, complete and return the

2025-2026 Fee Reduction Application- --> Link To Release Form to their Guidance Counselor with parent signature.


Once the Form has been reviewed, Guidance Counselors will notify students of their eligibility. If found eligible, the Reduced Fee will be reflected when the student logs into School cash Online.
