SENIORS Farewell 5/19
As seniors arrive to school on Wednesday, May 19 they are going to drive (or walk) through the front circle drive. Staff, parents and members of the community are welcome to attend and cheer on their Seniors and friends!
SENIORS May 19th Schedule
MAY 19TH ALL SENIORS INVOLVED IN OUR OUTDOOR GRADUATION NEED TO ATTEND THE PRACTICE!
**This includes In person, remote, mid year grads, Horizons - ALL NEED TO ATTEND. If you are not taking a final or have already turned in your MacBook (ie. Mid year Grad, Horizons) you may arrive at 10AM.
Wednesday, May 19 - senior last day
Seniors will begin arriving at school at 7:15AM. At that time, they will either drive (or walk) through the front circle drive and can turn back onto Johnson Drive and proceed to the appropriate parking lot. Near the front office doors, there will be a table set up with donuts for each Senior. Seniors are welcome to decorate their cars. Parents and members of the community are welcome to attend and cheer on their Seniors and friends.

- 7:40 - 9:10 - 1st hour final
- 9:10 - 10:00 - Macbook roll in (Learning Commons)

Finals Schedule for SENIORS
- May 17 - Monday: Hours 1-4 with Senior Finals in 2nd, 3rd, 4th
- May 18 - Tuesday: Hours 5-8 with Senior Finals in 5th, 6th, 7th
- May 19 - Wednesday: Hour 1 - Final in 1st, all other students 1-4
Senior MacBook Check-In
MacBook check-in will be this Wednesday morning at 9:15am (2nd Hour) in the Learning Commons for both In-Person and Remote students . To participate in graduation practice later that day you have to turn in your MacBook (with the case on it), and charger on Wednesday. If you need to keep your MacBook for Summer School, AP Testing, IB Film, Journalism, and/or Debate, please see Mr. Jamison BEFORE Wednesday to get approved to keep the device until your school obligations are completed. (If your case has "fallen off" please see Mr. Jamison, Ms. Crawford, or Ms. Angell to get it put back on before check-in)
MacBook Collection
All MacBook’s and chargers for both In-Person and Remote learners, will be collected this year.
All Seniors, including Remote only students will turn in their MacBook’s on their last day of school which is May 19th. More details will be included in informational emails from Mr. Glaser in the coming weeks.
All In-Person 9th-11th graders will turn in their MacBook in the morning of May 27th.
All Remote 9th-11th graders will turn in their MacBook (and any other school items) through a drive through process on May 27th, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm.
Students enrolled in a SMSD summer school course can retain their MacBook until the summer school session is completed, but their enrollment must be confirmed by school personnel during MacBook collection in order to keep the device.

Only 16 Yearbooks left for sale
Yearbooks will be distributed in June and there are only 20 books available on a first-come, first-served basis. To order yours, either take $65 in cash or check to the bookkeeper or pay online at www.yearbookforever.com .
The art department has big plans for the 21-22 school year! We’re looking at hosting a couple of big events (1 in the fall and 1 in the spring) that will help showcase the work of our amazing students and boost community involvement in our program! We are in search of some dedicated volunteers who can help us bring our plans to life! If you are looking for a satisfying and fulfilling volunteer opportunity please contact any of us. We would love the opportunity to tell you more about the special events we’re envisioning for 21-22.

SMN Athletics & Activities
Athletic Update
Monday, May 17 we begin regional play for all spring sports.
SMN Varsity Girls Soccer will host KC Schlagle / KC-Washington @ 5:00pm @ SMSD-North on Monday. Winner will advance to play OW on Tuesday @ 6:00pm!!
SMN Varsity Softball team travels to ODAC on Tuesday afternoon to play SMW @ 4:30pm. Winner advances to championship game @ 6:00pm.
SMN Varsity Baseball team travels to Gardner for the first round of KSHSAA 6A regionals. Game time is 3:30. Winner advances to 5:00pm championship game.
Track and Field travels to KSHSAA 6A Regional hosted by SM South on Friday afternoon/evening.
The SMN Golfers again posted their lowest Scores of the season at the Hoots Hollow Golf Tournament. Jason Culp and Jake Schneider led the way while posting their best rounds ever. Varsity then spent the rest of the week preparing for Regionals which North hosts on Monday May 17 at Sunflower Hills.
Boys’ Tennis concluded their season last week with the Regionals competition. In a loaded tournament of Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley Schools, Dayton Moody led the team with a first round win, but the other North players competed and forced their opponents to work hard. North was represented by the aforementioned Dayton Moody and Adam Thompson in singles and in doubles the duos of Matthew Cunningham and Evan Whitaker as well as Cross Walters and Donovn Moody. This year the team enjoyed great leadership and attitudes from its seniors. The seniors were Deven Cherry, Josh Ryan, Dayton Moody, Adam Thompson, Matthew Cunningham and Evan Whitaker.
SMN Girls Swim & Dive team are preparing for the KSHSAA State Championships. The Girls State Championships will take place on May 21-22, 2021 at the Capital Federal Natatorium in Topeka-Hummer Sports Park. In response to the COVID Pandemic, the diving competition and timed finals for swimming will take place in single-day competitions with the 6A Meet being held on Friday, May 21; Swimming timed finals begin @ 3:45pm

Notes from the Athletic Director
Shawnee Mission North is excited to announce Victoria “Tori” Hilger as the Varsity Dance Coach. Ms. Hilger earned her Bachelor of General Science in Language Arts - Creative from the University of Kansas; as well as minor in Dance in 2019.
Victoria serves as the Head Dance Coach for Ottawa University. In addition, she contracts with Universal Dance Association (UDA) as an instructor and event staff in the spring and summer. Tori also works remotely for IGNITE as a writer.
Ms. Hilger’s expertise is wide-ranging and includes Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ballet, Tap, Pom, Contemporary and Modern.
A meet and greet has been scheduled for 6:00pm on Thursday, May 20 in the auditorium

Return to Play Update
The district has made the decision to change the doctors allowed to release students from COVID Return to Play to only MD, PO and APRN; DC and PA-C will be removed, as they do not have the ability to perform cardiac assessments.
KSHSAA Guidelines Return to Play
SMSD partners with The Health Partnership, which is a medical practice with family physicians and pediatricians; they also have equipment to perform an EKG. The Health Partnership the only federally funded health clinic in Johnson County. They accept families with no insurance as well as families with health insurance coverage. They have offices on the Shawnee Mission Medical Center campus and in Olathe.
Face coverings for all attending and supporting interscholastic activities. The only exception is for those actively participating in competition.

2021 High School Graduation Ceremonies
Watch live on cable or online
The Shawnee Mission School District is pleased to provide a variety of options to watch the graduation ceremonies for SM North and Horizons.
Each ceremony will be filmed and available for viewing on our cable channels, YouTube, and as a digital download.
The district will also livestream all of the graduation events as they happen and later, on-demand, at these links;

May 25th: 7 p.m. SM North live on Spectrum Cable channel 2, & Consolidated Communications channel 18.
Wednesday, May 26:
6:30 p.m. Horizons graduation live on Spectrum Cable channel 18.
We are not able to offer a cable TV rebroadcast schedule this year to be included in the programs. We have included a printable QR code with directions, that will direct a device to the SMSD YouTube graduation playlist.
After the event, scan the QR code on the form below to view each night's ceremony on YouTube or at later date, be directed to a playlist of all the SMSD 2021 graduation ceremonies, available for downloading and viewing on-demand.

For a tax deductible donation of $45, an engraved brick will be added to the Legacy Brick Courtyard, located just outside the SMN stadium/pool entrance.
