A.C.E. Scholarship
Deadline: April 7, 2023
The Exchange Club of Lower Cape Fear, a chapter of the National Exchange Club, a service club with 28,000 members, is sponsoring our 12th annual A.C.E. (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award. Our cash award in 2023 has been raised from $1,000 to $1,500. This award will recognize a public high school student in New Hanover County who has overcome great physical, emotional, or social obstacles and is now a senior eligible for graduation in May/June 2023 with firm plans to attend college. For more information on our club please visit our website: http://www.nationalexchangeclub.org/
The objectives of the A.C.E. program are two-fold: to help encourage students to overcome hardships and earn a high school diploma, and to recognize those students, whose accomplishments are sometimes overlooked. This special recognition serves as a powerful example to all students that hard work and perseverance really do pay.
The Exchange Club of Lower Cape Fear is asking counselors at all 8 local public high schools to nominate one candidate for the A.C.E. award. The deadline for nomination is Friday, April 14, 2023 so you must submit your materials to your school representative no later than April 7th for review.. Examples of difficulties a candidate may have overcome could include physical problems, language difficulties, and abuses such as physical, emotional and sexual among others.
To better understand a nominee the club requests that you, or another school official, compose a narrative (not to exceed 500 words) describing the problems the nominee overcame and their goals for the future. A candidate must obtain the approval of a parent or guardian to participate.
Similarly we ask the student to write two essays (not to exceed 250 words each). The first essay would describe the events in their life for which they feel the greatest pride; the second would describe their plans for the future.
Please email your materials as described to Jennifer.Crudeli@nhcs.net
