St. George Update

Dear St. George Families and Community Members,

Bishop Cotta has suspended on site instruction for all Catholic Schools until further notice to slow the spread of COVID-19. We are in a very fortunate situation at St. George that our children already use technology in their day-to-day instruction as part of our blended learning program.

Here are some of the ways learning will continue at home for St. George students:

Children will continue to learn at home using lessons that our teachers have carefully crafted that can be completed at home or with online collaboration with classmates.

Our teachers are checking in with students online. If you haven't heard from your teacher, please reach out to me and I can tell you what the meeting time and method is for that grade level. Our teachers are using Google Classroom, Classtag, ZOOM, and Google Hangouts to work with students and families. In addition, our teachers will be sending short video clips home with reminders for students and families.

There is at least one assignment due EACH DAY and each teacher will specify how it should be turned in. For some, it may be online through Google Classroom. However, for the younger children, it may be a parent sign-off, a photo of the completed work, a short video created with mom/dad's cell phone and emailed to the teacher.

Children can collaborate with each other through Google applications like Docs, Slides, Spreadsheets, and through communication tools like Google Hangouts. For our students safety, this will only work with other St. George accounts.

Each child should have received two or three books from their teacher. (Some might be using online books.) Please encourage students to read as much as possible using books you may have at home or online book subscriptions like vooks.com.

The office remains closed until further notice. We are unable to access data, files, or materials. Please bear with us as we work harder than ever to provide a high quality Catholic Education experience through remote instruction.

Dear Administrators, Principals, Educators, & Staff,

I want to congratulate all of you on the collaborative effort that has taken place in regard to the Coronavirus. I am grateful for your commitment to quality, Catholic education and your leadership, which has navigated so many through this challenging task of transition. Thank you for quickly meeting the needs of our students and their families. You are all a blessing to me and to the Church.

We will continue to keep you informed about any other future developments. The frustrating thing in all of this is: “How long is this going to last?” For now, all we can do is to address the issues as they arise day-to-day.

Let us continue to keep this unprecedented situation in our prayers during this Lenten season. May the prayers of our Patroness, Our Lady of the Annunciation, whose feast we celebrate on March 25, be felt by all. May she be our consolation at this time,
