Key News for Explorer Families
As you're looking ahead, we will have three weeks before the winter break. Due to the runoff election being held at many FCS school campuses, Tuesday, December 6th will be a Remote Day for students and staff. Additional details and plans for the day will come from homeroom teachers.
With a thankful heart and much gratitude,

Fourth Grade Explorers
This week, students are starting group projects while we learn and explore Westward Expansion. Students will be in charge of researching their subtopic. The subtopics include: Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark, Mexican American War, War of 1812, Gold Rush, Oregon Trail, and Trail of Tears. Our favorite aspect of this project is students writing a letter or journal entry from the perspective of someone experiencing these events. This hands-on learning really helps history come alive! We always enjoy this unit.
Fifth Grade Explorers
Fifth graders recently started their science unit on Microorganisms by embarking on a “Micro Mission." After learning about the various different ways microorganisms can be both helpful and harmful, they created an informational poster to demonstrate their understanding. Throughout the project, students built upon personal connections to microbes, which included ways they’ve been impacted by the flu and common cold, their love of bread and yogurt, and how they like their chicken cooked thoroughly. This led to valuable conversations about how we can control the spread of harmful microorganisms, and we are proud to see our 5th graders practicing those precautions daily!

Annual Holiday Toy Drive
Help spread holiday joy to local families in need. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to the school lobby and put it in the marked boxes starting Tuesday, November 29th. Last day to donate is Monday, December 12th. All toys will be donated to North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC). We were overwhelmed with our Northwood community last year.
