New Attendance Policy
Attendance Policy Effective November 1, 2023
Dear DCP Redford Families,
Thank you for being a part of the DCP Redford family. So far, this has been a school year of
growth, learning, and coming together as a school community.
Part of what makes our DCP Redford community so strong is that we value transparency and are
committed to communication with our families. Leadership here at DCP Redford want to inform
you of our new attendance policy that aims to increase our attendance rates.
Currently, our attendance rates are struggling, which has caused our students' education to be
compromised daily. Students who are picked up early during instructional time means they are
missing essential learning time.
In the best interest of our scholars, parents will not be allowed to pick up their kids before 2:00
p.m., going forward to address this challenge.
If a student leaves school before 2:00 p.m, they will be marked absent for the entire day. The
goal of this new policy is to encourage parents to allow their scholars a full day of excellent,
necessary, high-quality teaching and learning.
A student misses five hours of teaching time if they are absent for one hour a day, five days a
week. A student who misses five hours a week for a month will have missed twenty-five hours of
afternoon teaching in core subjects such as math, science, and social studies. A student who
misses 25 hours per month will have missed 225 hours of instruction in nine months. This adds up
to 32 days of missed learning for our scholars in our core subjects. While our scholars are losing
ground and missing a significant amount of teaching time, our educators are unable to assist
scholars excel.
Our goal is to have all of our students present in school until the end of the academic day. We
appreciate your collaboration and help in making DCP Redford an exceptional place to learn,
where educational time is valued and respected.
Educationally Yours,
Carlita Earl, Principal
