NEWS FROM THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT
PSAT Results: The October PSAT Scores were released December 10th. Students who took the PSAT should have received an email from College Board sent to the email address they provided when completing the answer sheet on test day. Students who didn’t receive an email, or who are having issues logging in, may call the Student Line (866-433-7728) to confirm/update email addresses. Paper Score Reports will also be distributed to students through Advisory during the week of December 17th. Program Planning:
The Program Planning Season will begin as soon as students return from winter break. The timeline is posted on the Guidance Program Planning Webpage, and more detailed information and links will be posted when students return from winter break.
Peer Tutoring for West students:
The West Tutoring Academy is available to assist students who need extra help. Peer tutoring is available every Tuesday from 2:30pm to 3:30pm in the school library. During these times, any student who needs assistance with any course can come to the library and meet with a peer tutor. Students must arrive at 2:30pm, but can leave whenever they are finished with their work. If you have questions about this program, please call the Guidance Office at 267-893-2512.
Keystone Testing Information 2018-2019
Information Regarding January Keystone Testing:
Students currently enrolled in Algebra 1 and/or Biology will be administered the corresponding Keystone Assessment(s) during the months of January:
Algebra 1 and Biology Blocks 1 and 3 January 14th and January 15th
Algebra 1 and Biology Blocks 2 and 4 (flipped schedule) January 16th and January 17th
Makeups for Algebra 1 and Biology will be scheduled, as needed, up through January 18th.
Testing Information For Students - Power Point
State Assessment Proficiency Requirements:
Currently, PDE requires students in the class of 2021 and beyond to have reached proficiency on each of the three Keystone Exams prior to graduation. Students are encouraged to retake the test if proficiency is not reached on the first attempt.

Our faculty has organized review sessions for students who wish to prepare and review for the tests:
Algebra Testing Review Sessions
Module 1 – Tuesday, January 8th ~ 2:45 – 4:00pm (Miss Jones & Mrs. Jarossy in A115)
Module 2 – Wednesday, January 9th ~ 2:45 – 4:00pm (Mr. Fitzgibbons in C118)
*These sessions are open to any student looking to remediate.

Revised First Semester Final Exam Dates
The Board of School Directors recently approved a revised calendar and schedule for High School First Semester Final Exams.
The revised High School Final Exam schedule is as follows:
January 23rd - This is a full school day and a regular bell schedule. World Language and English exams will be given in class.
January 24th – Final exam schedule: Math - 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM and Science 9:30 AM- 11:00 AM.
January 25th – Final exam schedule: Social Studies - 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM and Make up/Conflict exams - 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM.
January 28th - Half day schedule with dismissal at 10:45 AM. All classes will meet on this day. This is also the last day of the second marking period.
Students must report to school on January 24th and 25th if they have a final exam and if they need to make up work in a course(s). Additional detailed information will be provided in future correspondence.
9th Grade Curriculum Fair - West Bound Students

Information and Announcements
The daily announcements offer the most comprehensive listing of meetings, fundraisers, and events in our school. You can watch the daily announcements scrolling on TV monitors throughout the building. Look for club and student activities fliers posted on bulletin boards and tack strips throughout our school.
On Mondays, we air a live stream broadcast from our TV Studio called “The Black and Gold.” This show highlights information about some of the biggest events and initiatives in our school.
On Fridays, we air episodes of Chatterbux. Chatterbux is a TV show produced by members of the Media Production classes. Chatterbux highlights a variety of aspects of student life here at CB West.

miniTHON
CB West is hosting our first ever miniTHON this year! The event will take place Friday, March 1st from 2pm – 8pm. All participants must register for the event by December 21st. Registration is through MyPaymentsPlus so the students need their parents account in order to register!
miniTHON is an event that raises awareness and money for the fight against pediatric cancer. It is a spin off of Penn State’s THON that you have probably seen students canning for. If your child is interested in participating, please be sure that they register online by December 21st in order to reserve their space! Once they are registered, they must fundraise a minimum of $50 that will be donated directly to Four Diamonds which is the organization that sponsors miniTHON.

Antler Yearbook Information
Don't forget to reserve your child an Antler yearbook for this school year - books can be reserved until May 10th. After that, they will only be sold on a first come, first serve basis. You can order books online at www.jostens.com or by filling out an order form, available on the Antler website.
Autism Awareness Scarves
The Social Skills class is hard at work this season making Autism Awareness Scarves just in time for the holidays. The scarves are handmade and individually cut by our students. This perfect, last-minute holiday gift is only $10.00. If you order by Wednesday, December 19th, we will have your order ready for you by Friday, while supplies lasts. CB West Parent Council

EPREP
The Central Bucks School District offers a standardized testing prep system, ePrep, to all its students. This free web-based program helps students prepare for the PSAT, SAT and ACT. There are practice tests, test-taking tips, and instructional videos that explain how to do the problem(s) that may have been answered incorrectly during the practice session. All CB West sophomores have been registered with accounts. They should log in with their CBSD student email and the password 2018. Any students who are interested in accessing ePrep but do not have an account should contact Ms. Graney in the CB West Library for an account.
FEAST
FEAST again will be providing home cooked meals for those in need.
The distribution dates are as follows:

Good News About CB West Students
PMEA District 11 Orchestra & Band Festival
Congratulations to the 4 West instrumentalists who were selected to for the 2019 PMEA District 11 High School Orchestra & Band Festivals. Students auditioned against other high school students from all over Bucks and Montgomery Counties to earn a spot in these ensembles. Band student Matt Oriente and Orchestra students Dana Zhang, Nadia Przybylski, & Christina Cavalluzzo will represent CB West in the upcoming festivals. Congratulations on your hard work and for this significant achievement!
Congratulations CB West Cheerleading Team
Congratulations to the CB West Cheerleading Team for qualifying for States after competing at the District 1 competition! West Proud!
Chemistry Field Trip
Chemistry classes recently toured the Franklin Institute and interacted with various exhibits such as: how electricity is generated and conducted, the development of alternative energy sources to fuel our daily lives, the impact of engineering on small and large scale projects in developed and developing countries, and how human interaction with our planet has caused atmospheric and geological changes over time. Students were also able to visit a few historical landmarks in the city.
The Joy of Sox
In November, the Class of 2019 Class Cabinet held a fundraiser to support The Joy of Sox, an organization that provides socks to those experiencing homelessness and those in need of socks. Cassidy Pitts, a member of the Class of 2019 Cabinet and chairperson for the fundraiser, presented 430 pairs of new socks and check for $400 to Joy of Sox volunteer, Jean Naples. The 2019 Class Cabinet would like to thank the West community for their support, kindness, and generosity in making this fundraising event an enormous success! The traditions of kindness and community continue at West!
