Garfield Re-2 News You Can Use
September 2, 2019
Garfield Re-2 making steady progress and great growth in CMAS
Overall, in math and English Language Arts, the number of Garfield Re-2 students who met or exceeded expectations was higher than last year. Combined, Garfield Re-2 students improved by six (6) percentage points in English Language Arts from 30% to 36%. In math, overall, Garfield Re-2 students improved slightly from 21% to 22%. State averages were 46% and 35% respectively.
The focus of the Garfield Re-2 School District, however, is the state growth data. This data compares assessment data for students that had data for both 2018 and 2019. For the 2018-19 school year, four (4) out of five (5) grade levels in math showed growth above the state median and in some cases were close to the high growth range. Growth in English Language Arts over the last three years has increased an average of 11 points per grade level with fifth grade seeing a 30 point increase in student growth this year.
Pre-School Fun!
Monday was the first day of preschool across the district. It marked the start of a new and wonderful journey of learning and growing for many children and their families! We are thrilled to welcome the youngest members of our Garfield Re-2 family.
Emily Kielmyer is the District's Early Childhood coach. The position is paid for through grant funds. She would love to answer any questions you may have in Garfield Re-2. ekielmeyer@garfieldre2.net.
What is that new box at the front door of my school?
Earlier this year, Garfield Re-2 finished the first phase of the district’s facility master planning process. One of the areas of concentration was safe and secure schools. The master plan will help us prioritize a variety of projects that have been identified.
One step that we will be making in the coming weeks to all of our schools and the district office is the addition of Airphones at all main entrances. An Airphone has a video camera, a speaker and a door release system. The main entrances for all schools will be locked, and the front office staff will be able to welcome our guests and partners and take steps to protect our schools from unwanted visitors.
Right now, nothing has changed.
We will continue to encourage our families and community partners to be in our schools, and support our students. There will be, however, some changes in the coming weeks to how our community members are able to enter our schools. We know you will have a lot of questions and more details will be coming soon. We just wanted you to be aware of the new additions to the front doors, and that we will be providing additional information on the new processes.
The purchase and installation of the Airphones was made possible through a Colorado Department of Homeland Security grant.
