Principal's Message 5.6.22
Thank you for helping to recognize and appreciate the dedicated staff of educators we have here at Lake Grove! Each member of this staff truly goes above and beyond to ensure that your children are safe, happy, learning and growing every day they are with us. Your displays of gratitude this week through flowers, notes, kindness, pizza, doughnuts and more help us to feel valued and remind us of the strength of our partnership. This month's social-emotional theme is cooperation and we are grateful for the cooperation of all our families, and especially our volunteers as described in the PTA message below.
Be well,
Principal Jennie Knapp
SEL Theme for May: Cooperation
During May, we will work together to practice the character trait of COOPERATION in our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, classrooms, and throughout our school.
As a school community, we will be examining how Cooperation looks, sounds, and feels. Cooperation is about assistance, support, collaboration, & teamwork. It is a necessary tool in our toolbox for creating a community that cares for one another.
Students will be encouraged to use cooperation skills such as communication, self-awareness, and the ability to step up (or step back) when the time is right to best support whatever group you are working with. Using these skills will help us to work alongside one another and create things, together, that are better than anything we could create on our own.
Here are links for extension activities to explore COOPERATION further as a family:

School Lunch Hero Day
On Friday, May 6, 2022, we celebrate School Lunch Hero Day! This is a special day of celebration to recognize school nutrition professionals and the difference they make every day! Between preparing healthy meals for students, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, school nutrition professionals are true heroes.
We thank our very own Lunch Heroes who feed our students daily: Christal and Keisha. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
May 16th Ice Cream Social
We'd like to invite all current and incoming Lake Grove students and families to an evening ice cream social at Lake Grove on Monday May 16th from 5:30-7pm. This will be very informal - hopefully on the playground, weather permitting, ice cream will be available, there will be a short welcome from me, and a few activities for families to do if they wish. More details to come as we get closer.
Last chance to sign up for the talent show May 16
Lake Grove’s annual talent show is back LIVE this year! All talent is welcome and all Kindergarten-5th grade students are encouraged to participate. Space may be limited due to time constraints. You must have a practiced/prepared talent to share. Each participant must fill out the entry form, add a group name if it applies. All entries will be reviewed for school appropriate content (e.g. song lyrics). All entry forms are due no later than May 9th to the Lake Grove Office. Late entries will NOT be accepted. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Post.
OSAS Schedule and Reminders
What students need to be prepared for state testing:
- Be well rested (good night sleep)
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- Bring a book to read when they are finished
- Encouragement (think growth-mindset!)
A reminder - students do not need a smartphone or smartwatch at school. We have a land line phone in the office where we encourage students to memorize an important phone number to practice dialing. Additionally, each Lake Grove student has been issued an iPad or a Chromebook. Please be sure that they bring CHARGED chromebooks for testing.
If a student has a smartphone or watch during testing it will invalidate their test (smart phones and watches are an impropriety, per state assessment regulations).
April 11 is the beginning of the Statewide tests for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math for all students in grades 3-5. Here is the schedule for the next few weeks:
Parent Input Form
Input is optional. Reminder, we do not accept specific teacher requests.
Forms are due: May 9
i-Ready Spring Assessment
Soon, elementary students in Lake Oswego will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. As you know, i-Ready is a program that helps us determine your child’s strengths and areas for future growth. This is the third of three i-Ready diagnostic assessments we give each year, and the results will be shared with parents before the summer break. For kindergartners, this will be their second i-Ready assessment.
COVID-19 Screening: Participant Action Required
LOSD is preparing for the last distribution of COVID-19 Student Screening testing supplies.
Please let us know if your student does not need any more supplies through the last collection day, Wednesday, Jun. 8.
If you are interested in un-enrolling your K-12 student in the program, click OPT OUT to complete the OPT OUT form.
If you are interested in your student continuing to participate in the program, but do not need any more supplies, click HOLD to complete the HOLD form.
No need to do anything if your student is planning to participate and needs to receive supplies in this last distribution.
Thank you.

The Lake Grove PTA is welcoming families with students grades 3-5 to the playground on TUESDAY, MAY 10 FROM 4:30-6 PM. Safe Oregon
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources.
SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools.
(Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense.)
