Principal's Message
Thomas families,
We have a student group called ROX; a group of fifth graders who meet to talk about confidence, connection, and character. This week, they created a display in our main hallway titled “Be Kind to Your Mind”. Clipped on the poster were notecards with positive self-talk that students could help themselves to, and use to feel more empowered.
What a significant concept to include during Valentine’s Week! Yes, it’s important to show kindness to others, to be generous, and to make others smile…but isn’t it also important to give yourself grace, recover from setbacks, and have a positive refrain running through your head? It’s a meaningful reminder from these students and their advisors, and well-received by our students: after lunch, nearly all the notecards were taken and needed to be replenished!
Go Tigers,
Melissa Garris

Reminder: Communicable Diseases and Exclusion
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) recently reported the state’s first measles case of 2024 near Dayton, Ohio. While there are not any cases local to DCS at this time, we want to remind parents that any child in an affected school who cannot show proof of two properly administered measles vaccinations must be excluded from school attendance until such proof is provided. Children with written waivers or exemptions will be excluded for 21 days after the onset of the last known case in the affected school.
