Dr. Doherty will be joining the Neshaminy School District beginning in July. On behalf of Mr. Funseth and the Butler Staff - we wish Dr. Doherty the very best as she begins her principalship at Ferderbar Elementary School! Thank you for your service and dedication to the students, staff, and families of Butler Elementary School these last 2-years!

Playground:

Beginning next week, the Butler Playground will be CLOSED for SUMMER. Construction will be taking place to update and enhance the Butler Playground. For the safety of your children, please be sure to remind your child to avoid the construction zone.

Both the District and Butler PTO are providing equipment that will allow for ADA compliance equipment/surfaces and seating around the perimeter. We look forward to opening the new playground at the start of the 23-24 school year!

Exterior Panels:

In addition to the playground, outside panels along the perimeter of the building roof will be replaced. The existing trim began to fall this year, so those areas will be updated around the building. Again, please stay away from the construction equipment.

As noted on previous communications, class placements for students will be communicated across the District via Parent Portal on Thursday August 3rd. Please check your personal accounts to locate your teacher's name. Not all sections have been filled - updates will be shared at a later time prior to the start of school.

This year, Butler has partnered with local businesses to promote reading for pleasure. Your child(ren) have worked hard this year to develop their literacy skills. Continued reading throughout the summer will ensure that these skills are maintained, and they are prepared for the start of the 2023 – 2024 school year! Current students in Kindergarten through sixth grade are all invited to participate.

The Initiative will run from Monday, June 19th through Friday, September 1st:

• For each day a student reads at least 15 minutes, they will color in one book on their log.
• Only one book can be colored per day. After they have colored 8 books in a stack, they may claim a reward from one of our local businesses.
• Students must present their log to claim a reward. Students do not need to claim rewards in any specific order. Only one reward is redeemable per establishment.
• Please see the link (click here) for details about redeemable rewards and addresses of establishments. Rewards can only be redeemed at the locations listed on the back of the reading log or page two of the electronic attachment.

Registration is open for all grades. Staffing and class sizes are determined based upon the number of actual registrants! Share this message around our neighborhoods for current residents or any new families who will be beginning at Butler! Please note, the Kindergarten-aged child must be 5 years old before September 1st – no exceptions.

As Butler's oldest students at school, our 6th Graders have an important responsibility as student leaders and mentors. This year, 6th Graders were involved, they initiated, and they made a positive impact on our school and community. At our Kids Celebrating Kids Assembly, the entire school celebrated our 6th Grade Students and their love of Butler - these students made our school better in many ways. Our underclassmen have now seen what it takes to be a 6th Grade Student - and the future looks bright in helping to make our school community a better place.

On Tuesday, June 13th, Butler celebrated our 6th Grade Bears following their elementary years at our school! During the ceremony, student achievements were highlighted and all were honored as the stars of the night! The events included student speeches, a chorus performance, and other awards and honors! Congratulations to our Butler Bear 6th Grade Class of 2023!

On June 13th, Butler welcomed back CB South's "former" Bears holding our Senior Walk through the school! The "soon-to-be" graduates saw their former grade school and were celebrated by our students and staff. Congratulations to the Class of 2023 - best wishes on your futures - forever Butler Bears!

Butler is fortunate to have so many parents within this community who look to support our schools. Countless hours, time, and energy has been shared with our school to help make great and lasting experiences for our students and classrooms. As a way to say "Thanks" - Butler teachers hosted a Volunteer Breakfast to show our appreciation to each of our parents and volunteers who help make Butler GREAT!

The end of the school year always brings feelings of anticipation for the next school year - not only for students, but also for teachers and support staff, too! On Friday, June 9th, Butler hosted Move-Up Day where each of next year's teaching staff were introduced to incoming students. Our AM/PM Kindergarteners joined together and met in the gymnasium with the 1st grade team while each grade level team in grades 2-6 circulated throughout our varied student homerooms. It was a great way for the children to learn about next year's team as they shared school curriculum!

Butler Elementary embraces the concepts of Kindness and Care for one another - and we try to exemplify this in honor of Joey Edwards, a former Bear. Joey was a model for all in how to treat others the right way. Today, June 9th, is his birthday, and in honor of Joey, the staff wore their Kind Like Joey or yellow t-shirts celebrating his memory, who he was as a person, and how we all strive to be each and every day.

The Butler Bear Kindergartners celebrated 6 days left of school with a Beach Day. It was a blast of fun as we got summer silly with a photo booth and playing beach day Bingo. We laid out our beach towels for snack time, played beach ball Hot Potato and even built a sandcastle from our solid shapes. The photo booth props brought out the silliness in all of us! We can't wait for the real thing!

Fifth Grade students completed an opinion writing assignment on school uniform policy. Following this assignment, they held a debate to defend their stance. Students took time in developing their writing pieces and then practiced the specifics to help their opinions among their classmates. Great job, students!

Each year, the Butler Spring Fair provides the opportunity for our students to be the "Principal for the Day" with our Butler Administrators. On Thursday, June 8th, Emma F. spent her day understanding what it takes to be a principal! She started and ended the day with special announcements, declared music during the lunch periods, observed one of her teachers, handed out birthday pencils, and even gave her classmate "extra recess". It was a great day and lots of fun to spend with Emma!

Central Bucks hosted an art showcase of some amazing pieces created by our CBSD students over the weekend of June 2 - 4 at CB West High School. So much incredible artwork was on display for our students Grades 1 through 12! Butler was fortunate to have much representation from our students and Mr. Funseth was able to say hello to a few students in person! Great job, Butler Bears! Each week, students earn Positive Paw Powers for their good behaviors and positive attitudes at school. Children enter them into our collection bin where names are then drawn for a special treat each Friday for every grade level.

Butler Elementary School prides itself on upholding to the highest standards of conduct and good work. When students demonstrate and emulate our Positive Paw Power attributes, it is noticed and acknowledged. Students receive Power Paw slips and place in our collecting bin in hopes of a special selection, which may include a unique Butler t-shirt or Breakfast with the Principals! With this week's breakfast, students had special time with Principals (Mr. Funseth & Dr. Doherty) and Student Counselors (Mrs. Milotich & Mrs. O'Connell) while being honored with a special certificate acknowledging their effort. Students work hard at helping our building rise to the top each and every day!
