BASHAW SCHOOL UPDATE
December 4-20
Info from the Admin Team
Hello Rebel Country,
What an amazing month November has been! The last few weeks have been full of celebrations that highlight the academic achievements and strong culture of Bashaw School.
On November 10th we had a beautiful Remembrance Day ceremony to honor our veterans. The students were very respectful throughout the service and the front foyer was decorated with some fantastic artwork from our Grade 3 class.
Our Awards Evening took place on November 10th as well. It was very impressive to see the number of students who won awards for their performance last year. There were many honors candidates from Grades 4-12 and multiple scholarship recipients at the high school level. Character and diligence awards were presented at each divisional level. It was heartening to hear the specific accolades given to each student receiving an award. We couldn’t be more proud of our students who put their best effort forward each day in terms of academics and positive behaviour.
Our volleyball season was a strong one! All of our teams worked very hard this season and improved their skills throughout. Senior Boys won Gold at the Zones home tournament, which meant they moved onto Provincials. The Provincial Tournament took place in Vermilion last weekend. Our boys placed 6th out of 142 competing schools. This was an impressive end to an exciting volleyball season for the boys! It was fantastic to see the turnout for all the teams’ home games and tournaments this season. We’d like to thank our coaches, parents, and supporting school staff who all play a part in making athletics run smoothly.
After doing an extensive financial audit of our School Generated Funds and Budget, we are recognizing the financial hardships of our community. This has become apparent as we look at our sports accounts. As sports are not funded by Alberta Education dollars, we rely upon fundraising and athlete/parent payments. As a school, we are no longer able to finance these endeavours. However, there is support within our community. If you or someone you know is having trouble making the payments for sports, please book a meeting with the administration team at Bashaw School, as we do not want to remove an athlete from a team for nonpayment of fees.
Have a great December,
