Imagination Texas Workshop Artists 2024
Nabil Shakeel - Upcycling Thrift Workshop
Nabil is a CODA that grew up in California. He has done work with various Deaf organizations most recently with CorpsTHAT as an ASL crew leader for the Wisconsin Conservation Corps. Currently he runs the thrift store Hands on Texas in Hurst that supports the Texas Association of the Deaf. He enjoys being a active part of the Deaf community and helping out where he can.
Texas Woman's University - Robotic Painting Workshop
Texas Woman's University has both undergraduate and graduate degrees leading to careers in deaf education. Students in both programs have opportunities to work with K12 teachers and students who are deaf/hard of hearing in the Texas Woman's University Future Classroom Lab (TWUFCL). The TWUFCL is a technology-rich learning environment where TWU students, teachers, and K12 students can have hands-on learning experiences with coding, robotics, and diverse computer opportunities. We have hosted events on the Denton campus of TWU, in K12 schools around the Metroplex, and have attended deaf education events throughout the state.
Students accompanying Dr. Smith for the event are undergraduate and graduate students hoping to work with deaf and hard of hearing individuals after graduation. They have all spent time in the TWUFCL and are well-verse in its technologies.
Brittany Hawthorne
Brittany Hawthorne. I'm a freelance Deaf makeup artist for over 12 years. Beauty is so much more than just the clothes we wear, or the makeup we put on. It’s each person’s individual personality, the way we express ourselves, and what makes us feel unique.
Madelene H
Madelene is a classically trained dancer based in San Antonio, Texas. Her passion for dance started at a very young age and continues to teach and inspire all ages and styles. At the same time, she has always supported the deaf community and loves being part of the culture. She is thrilled and honored to be welcomed back to teach at Imagination Texas as a dance instructor. She wants to thank the program for giving her the opportunity to merge together both her passions while giving others a fun space to be creative.
