Here is an example from a classmate, Jackson did this last semester for a different assignment (not the notecard confession), but this is a great example. You will notice he did a bit more than just a notecard confession traditionally, you see more and even hear his voice near the end.

Many prospective teachers have very positive reasons for entering the profession, and many of those reasons are their former teachers. Teaching is a profession where we can directly impact peoples lives - they truly are some of our biggest role models and inspirations. But just like every aspect of this world, there's always a "yang" to every "yin." There are some teachers (who are few and far between, thankfully) that abuse their power, or are negligent towards students. There are at least two types of Note Card Confessions.

Although not all would be appropriate for classroom use

1. One type tells the story from a point of view: a person at a historical event, a character in a book or story, an actor, a criminal or an accessory to a crime, the parent of a victim, and on and on.
2. Another type tells your own personal story, this may or may not be appropriate for a lesson in the classroom OR the story of someone else; an ancestor, a friend, a former teacher, etc.

Everyone has a story...................

• Point of View. Style #1 requires a certain amount of research. Watch videos on an event. Read and research the event. Some teachers require an essay first. Then choose the character that you want to tell the story. You will, again, need to try to put yourself in their shoes. It is truly impossible to accurately represent someone else. A close interpretation can only be done by researching thoroughly.
• Style #1 requires a close look at a personal journey. This may not be appropriate for a lesson in your classroom, but it is important to understand the concept. The story should convey emotion, kind of a 'sit on the edge of your seat' feeling. The audience is anxious to get to the end to see how it turns out. If you're sharing someone else's story, you'll want to spend some time listening to them and asking questions. You need to try to put yourself in their shoes and tell their story. You may need to do some research to get enough information if the person has passed away. Think about a teacher that has impacted your life....

Rural life is valuable—in so many ways. Use this assignment to tell the story of the importance of rural areas—farms, rural life, and/or rural schools. They can tell their story—or one of their family’s ties to a rural community, etc. Maybe the benefits of attending a small 1A school, etc. Maybe about a relative who attended a one-room schoolhouse.

It is important to complete a storyboard for your Note Card Confession. Either type in the storyboard or use a pencil as it requires lots of editing to get it just how you want it.

• Try to use no more than 8 words per card.
  
• Use as many cards as necessary but don't go on & on forever, if your video is more than 5 minutes people will lose interest. 3 minutes or less is best.
• It is best not to use small 3 x 5 cards, best touse 5 x 7 size or larger.
  
• Make it emotional
  
• Get to the point!
  
• Add appropriate music, but make sure the music has NO words, just instrumental.
• Practice before you record.
• Get close when you video so the card is the focus of the video not the background!

HINT: Most examples use 3 x 5 cards, they are very small, 5 x 7 cards or larger are easier to make your handwriting CLEAR....... make sure your text is very clear & readable, write BIG, or even type!

You could use any type of notecard, or make them on your iPad using an App like iMovie, Spark Video, Keynote or there are literally tons of Notecard and Flashcard apps. Choose one if you like, or do it by hand of course, and video yourself. You have choices, you might even discover a new app to use.

Also remember, it is very easy to record your screen in iOS 11. Tutorials for how to record your screen are below, just scroll down.

If you are HANDWRITING them, make sure you print very clearly and large enough to READ easily.

• Practice reading your confession orally so you can hear if it flows.
• Record yourself reading it so you can listen to it, again checking for flow.
• But your recording will not include you reading the cards, Just practice that way!
• When you are pleased with your storyboard and have your timing down, you are ready to create the recording of your cards.

• Use as many cards as you need, but don't make your video too long, more than 5 minutes and folks lose interest. THree minutes or less is best.
• Write these using markers in very neat handwriting. Do not use more than 8 words on a card. Or type them BIG, CLEAR font!

• PRACTICE using your notecards. Will you drop the cards or lay them down? Do they slide easily without them all falling?
• Decide where you will hold the cards. Establish the part of the body where you will hold them and keep them in that spot. If you don't want to show your face hold them in front of your stomach. Look in a mirror to help you decide.
• INCLUDE music without lyrics to enhance your video and set a mood or tone. This should be classical music, New Age, piano, or something comparable. It should NOT distract from your message but enhance,
• NO LYRICS in the song, Instrumental only!!

There are many ways you can record your note card confession.

1. On your iPad, just use the built-in in camera, prop your iPad up in front of you and record.
   
2. On your iPad use the new Screen Recording Feature of iOS 11.
   
3. On a computer: The simplest method is to sit in front of your laptop and record using your built-in camera. On a Mac, use QuickTime Player. You should probably have someone available to start the music for you.
   

In a classroom setting, you might want to assign roles to a group of students.

• One person could be the videographer,
• another would be the musician,
• another would be the nodder - letting the narrator know when to change to the next card.
• Hint: do NOT let the nodder read the cards ahead of time. This gives the nodder time to read the card like the audience would and not rush through.
