Lakeside Office Notes
Sept 8th, 2023
Safety Day!
Today is “Safety Day” at Lakeside. Students and staff participate in a variety of safety drills today: bus safety, blue light training, lockdown training, and severe weather drill. The state of Minnesota requires us to complete five fire drills and five lockdown drills and one severe weather drill each school year.
No left turn into the parking lot: LAPD tickets start MONDAY 9/18
LAPD has been on site the first week of school to address parents taking a left turn into the parking lot from Karmel. Plus a large digital sign has been on site all week.
STARTING ON MON 9/18, cars that turn left into the parking lot from Karmel will be ticketed from LAPD.
This information was sent our on Sept 1st:
Dear Lakeside Parents,
A joint statement from Lakeside and Lakes Area Police Department
With our school so close to the Chisago City Fire Department, we cannot have cars lined up in front of the fire dept on Karmel Ave for afternoon pick-up. Blocking the Fire Department creates a safety concern that could impact our entire community. Please use Liberty Lane to line up for curbside pick up each day.
REMINDER…. taking a left into the school parking lot from Karmel Ave during afternoon pick-up (see map) is NOT ALLOWED.
Blue Light Training
Parents should know if you pull up to school and the blue lights are on, it means the building is not safe and you should drive away.
Near playground by recess storage
Outside door 8 by the bus drop off
Outside door 1 by the front door
Yellow tags: displayed at ALL TIMES
Pickup number tags need to be visible at ALL times during curbside pick up until you leave the parking lot.
Cars must display the tags from school at all times while in line for pick up
Only school issued school tags are accepted. This is a security feature to ensure students go home with the correct car.

Friends Make a Difference Mentoring Program
We have a great opportunity to be a mentor to a Lakeside student! We meet once a month during the lunch period.
Mentorship can make a positive difference in the life of a young person, the mentor, and the community. Investing time and energy in long-term mentor/mentee relationships with our youth is beneficial in preparing them for a future of serving themselves and others. Research confirms that mentoring works!
We encourage you to consider helping make a difference by participating in the valuable friendship mentoring program.
