From the principal
Kia ora koutou,
Colour Run
As a new member of staff, I really enjoyed the fun and excitement of the Colour Run. The children loved it, the staff loved it, and I am sure the parents who turned up to watch and participate did as well. Community and whanau support for this event was very high, with $6,810.00 raised to support Education Outside the Classroom events. This financial support really makes a difference to the experiences that can be offered to the children. Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you to the Y5/6 team who led the organisation and co-ordinated with Hayley Taylor with the course set up. A great event.
Year Eight Graduation
Last Friday the Y8 students and whanau arrived at Sherwood Park Golf Club to celebrate graduating from Maungatapere School. The young ladies looked gorgeous and grown up in dresses, with the boys dressed formally with a smattering of ties to look rather dashing. Photos were taken outside, then as a group we moved inside for my principal speech and words of wisdom for moving on to secondary school. The students got to go first with the main buffet dinner, which was followed by Mrs Neumann sharing the significance of a new tradition of holding a patu as they spoke. Collectively the students spoke well and from the heart. We were very proud of them. It was a special time for all involved. This would be one of my highlights of the year. Thank you to Jane and Bridget for the fantastic decorations and setup, supported by Arabella and Hannah our two Y7 secret squirrels.
Class Fun Days
Number of end of year fun days have been happening of late. The juniors had a fantastic day at the Lion Park, the Y5/6 had their catch up surf day from camp earlier on, the middle school had shared lunches and games and yesterday the Y7/8 had a whole lot of cooperative fun activities at school followed by a sausage sizzle and hot chips.
Practising for Prize Giving
This week we have had a few more assemblies to prepare for the end of year prize giving. This year we will have our very polished kapa haka roopu performing their full set. It will be exciting for our whole school and community to be able to share in and celebrate this group of students’ passion for kapa haka.
We hope you are able to come and enjoy the day.
Thank you to our school community supporting such a wonderful school. I have loved getting to know the children, staff and community. The staffing changes with our management and leadership team will be an exciting time in 2024, with the intent of building on the learning, fun and teacher expertise at Maungatapere School. We have two new teachers to add to our team and look forward to getting to know Sarah Little in R8 and Douglas Kelly in R14.
This year has been a year of getting to know existing systems, traditions and the Maungatapere Way. My goal of knowing every child’s first and last name eluded me at bit. But life is about ‘Making it Happen’ so this goal will roll into next year for me. Have a safe holiday and we look forward to seeing you back in the new year.

Maungatapere School PTA Newsletter
Our Room 9 Options group has worked really hard this year to create our first ever Maungatapere School Yearbook. Each term a new group of students joined and contributed their ideas to make this happen, from covering and writing about different events to taking and collecting photos. We hope you enjoy their creation.
