Print Collection
The library strives to provide a broad collection of resources that presents varying levels of difficulty, satisfies a wide range of interests, and represents varied points of view. Our materials are intended to support the intermediate and middle school curriculum, to encourage pleasure reading, to build knowledge, and to represent many perspectives.
The library serves a large population of students and staff; it is our responsibility to provide access to a diverse assortment of materials to meet the needs of our many users. It is recognized that every book in the library will not be relevant for every student. We encourage readers to practice self‐selection skills in determining the best materials to fit their personal interests and needs. To assist students in finding the books that are right for them and to help them grow in self-selecting skills, the Raider Library utilizes a variety of spine stickers.
Young Adult
Young Adult (YA) books are published for an intended audience of age 12 and up. These books, maked with the "YA" sticker, are a bit more mature in content than the children’s books found in an elementary school library. These books are usually professionally reviewed for readers in 6th, 7th and/or 8th grade. They address a variety of topics of interest to middle school students, usually feature middle school aged characters, and address the challenges of adolescence.
Teen
The books marked with the "Teen" sticker are professionally reviewed for 8th grade and above. They offer content that is more mature than the books marked with the young adult sticker and typically address topics of interest to teens and students preparing to enter high school.
Miscellaneous
Other spine labels are used to identify titles on Texas state reading lists, books that support the "One World, Many Stories" program, and books that are written in the popular graphic novel format.
We encourage students to try a variety of books knowing that no book is right for every reader. If a student checks out a book that is not a fit, they can return it and try something else! Also, I am always happy to assist students in finding books that are a good fit and that will keep them reading!
Digital Collection
We are always adding new titles, so be sure to browse regularly.
