Newsletter No. 2 Week 4 Term 4
Tokoroa Intermediate School 02 November 2023
Associate Principal's Pen
It’s hard to believe that this year will be over in a couple of weeks and soon our year 8 students will begin the next phase of their schooling career. They have had the opportunity to visit the local High Schools and hopefully, have made informed decisions about the High School they will be attending.
Last week we were extremely privileged to host the combined Primary School’s Choir. A big
congratulation to Mr. Dean for his hard work, not only with our school but also with the combined items during the performance. The audience were enraptured with the selection of songs and the quality of singing. Well done to all students and teachers involved.
I would like to remind parents that students are expected to always wear the correct school uniform. If for some legitimate reason this is not possible, students need to bring a note from home and a limited exemption is given for a period. Crocs are not to be worn as substitute footwear.
Still on the theme of uniforms - the lost property continues to grow every day. 99% of the clothing that is handed in still remains unmarked so it’s not possible to return items to the students. Again, I would urge parents to mark all items of clothing that come to school. I would estimate that there are
over 50 items of clothing unclaimed which would have a value of around $2,800.00.
One of the things that concerns me is the real lack of family time. Students and, I hesitate to say, and parents, spend a lot of time on devices or in front of the TV. It would be great if for at least one night a week all devises are put aside, and families interact with board games or even playing cards. You could also decide to take a picnic to the lake and spend time chatting together. Just a thought. Our lives are hectic at the best of times so setting time aside is important for families.

Enjoy your children.

Period Products in Schools
What products are available? Pads and tampons – regular and super – are being provided at school. These products are easy for students to use at school and will meet a range of different age, developmental, and cultural needs.
Using these products is not compulsory. Young people are free to make their own choices about what they use and can continue to bring products from home if they prefer. If you are a parent or caregiver and have any questions or concerns about period products being available to any young person in your family or whānau, please speak with staff at our school.
