Husky E-News
October 8, 2023
From the Principal
Hillendale families,
I hope you are having a great weekend!
Thank you so much for your time, energy, and generosity last week as we had our Spirit Week, Book Fair, Donuts With Grown Ups & Early Dismissal/100th Anniversary Parade all in one week! It was wonderful to see so many of you at the parade and to get to spend some time with you all at what was one of the best attended Donuts With Grown Up events in Hillendale history. Thank you again!
Last Tuesday, October 4th, we held our first Lockdown Drill of the school year. All students and staff did a tremendous job taking our drill seriously while maintaining peace and calm throughout the building. "Bravo" to all our teachers and staff for helping our students prepare and practice and thank you all for supporting your children at home around this delicate topic.
We would like to invite all our students to join our staff in a Phillies Spirit Day this Wednesday (10/11) for the first home game of the Division Series!
As a reminder, Picture Day is this Thursday, 10/12.
Have a great week!
Joshua Leight

Indigenous People's Day Volunteer Opportunity
We are excited to share a unique volunteer opportunity for Indigenous People's Day at Hillendale this upcoming Monday (10/9). Students will spend roughly 20-minutes on an outdoor project to help beautify our campus and connect with nature. We are looking for volunteers to support our parent and school leadership team in supervising our students and assisting in our projects while outside. If you are interested and able to volunteer for your child's class or grade level, please use this link to sign-up. Note that clearances are required as you will be supervising a group of children.

Standard Response Protocol & Emergency Preparedness
Throughout the beginning of the school year you may have heard the term "Secure" used several times to describe our district's status as it relates to emergency preparedness. Last school year, UCF adopted the Standard Response Protocol in all our schools. Staff have been trained and continue to learn more about SRP as it relates to best practices across age levels. Attached is a parent guide to SRP. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you might have. Thank you!

Book Fair Thank Yous
Thank you parents and students for a successful Book Fair!
Thank you parents for your support. Because of it, we were able to donate a lot of new books to the Hillendale library for our Huskies to enjoy!
Also, thank you to the students who purchased poster raffle tickets and the parents who rounded up their purchases on Donut Day. Because of your support, we were able to donate 2 books to each child in the families affected by the recent fire in Oxford.
