April 2023 Edition
Happy April
Happy April Lincoln Landsharks!
Talk about March Madness, from the upset in the actual Basketball tournament to the wild and crazy weather that we welcomed during March! So glad that Spring is finally here and warm weather is finally approaching. Please be sure that students are dressed every day to go outside and play. We want our students to be able to run, jumprope, play soccer or shoot some hoops. Not only does physical activity assist students with their physical well being but our emotional health is always improved when we have an opportunity to BE ACTIVE!
April brings about many other changes beside Spring weather, as we prepare for our annual statewide testing window for MCAS in grades 3 and 4. Students should not feel anxious, as their teachers have been preparing them for this. The students have practiced with all of the tools in the platform and understand the expectations. The testing dates are listed under our Important events. Please be sure students are well rested the night before and ON TIME. The cafeteria staff will be preparing a hot special breakfast each day of testing, and we also provide special snacks during testing for students. All we expect is EFFORT and that students should be prepared to do their best on the test.
Now is the time to check in with teachers, we have lots of learning left. Do you know where your student falls in relationship to end of year standards, do you know how you can help? Be sure to reach out, we have plenty of time to continue to accelerate learning. Additionally we still have open spots for our April vacation week, please be sure to sign up soon!
Families can and should help students by ensuring that homework is done EVERY night, that spelling words are studied daily, math facts (addition/multiplication) have been memorized and that families are communicating regularly with the teachers to partner with supporting each child's individual needs. Students should be writing appropriate grade level responses to their assignments. A quick rule of thumb: K-sentence level, Grade 1- multiple sentences on a given topic, Grade 2- Paragraph length writing, up to 3 paragraphs on a topic, Grade 3 and 4 students should all be able to produce a 3 paragraph essay and be working up to 5. To support this, please allow students to use invented spelling and encourage them to add punctuation when they naturally pause, while reading their responses aloud.
We realize that phone numbers change and moves do happen throughout the year. Please be sure to keep the office and/or the classroom teacher teacher up to date on any of these changes so that we can remain in contact. Additionally, to keep our students safe it is important that anyone dismissing a student MUST be listed on the Purple EMERGENCY FORM. Please be sure that they also have an ID with them, for verification. Thank you for your help with this. If you are changing HOW your students gets home please send a NOTE in with your child in the morning to avoid any confusion. Dismissal Daily is at 2:50, please be on time for student pick ups.
If you have not yet, please be sure to get connected with your classroom teachers through the use of the REMIND app. The teachers should have already sent you a code to accept. We use this communication app, for classroom and school happenings as well as direct teacher-family communication. Our school website is filled with useful information and is always kept up to date, as is the information we also post on Facebook, Twitter and our NEW Instagram account so please be sure to follow us and connect!

Internet For All
The Office of Educational Technology through the US Department of Education has a program called the Affordable Connectivity Program which helps to provide low-cost internet connectivity to low-income households. If you have students whose families are struggling to afford their monthly internet service, the Federal Communications Commission’s Affordable Connectivity program (ACP) may be able to help. Households with a child who is approved to receive free or reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or the School Breakfast Program (SBP), including children who attend schools participating in U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), are eligible for the ACP Program. More information about the program and resources to share with your families can be found at https://tech.ed.gov/broadband/acp/#.

Transportation - Bussing Information and Contacts
Busses are the first out of the building. Please understand that the times listed on the bus passes, are approximate. Please allow yourself 10 minutes before and after the time listed, for any traffic delays.
ALL STUDENTS that ride a BUS in KINDERGARTEN and GRADE 1, have had laminated BUS tags attached to their backpacks. The information includes, their actual bus pass, the students Bus #, name and their homeroom. This is one additional step to assist the bus drivers in recognizing the youngest students, while assuring the students have the pertinent information available. Please DO NOT REMOVE these tags. Some students are very shy or have languages that make being able to communicate their information difficult, this aids in removing the barrier to keep our students safe. Thank you for your help with this.
In addition, the #'s on the outside of the busses, may NOT always match the actual bus number of your child. Students that are NOT picked up at their bus stop are NOT returned to the Lincoln. ALL STUDENTS that have not been picked up at their stops, are brought to the MOODY SCHOOL, located at 158 Rogers Street.
Below is the Transportation link for any additional information you may require.
HEALTH - SAFETY - MEDICATION
Any students who have emergency medications (Epi-Pens, inhalers, etc.) or who will receive medication in school MUST have a medication order from the prescribing physician AND a completed consent form from the City Health Department. Forms and medication can be dropped off to the school nurse on the first day of school. The school nurse cannot administer ANY medications without a physician's order, including over-the-counter medications. Please make sure that the school nurse is provided refills in advance of any medication supply running out.
Please also be sure that the nurse has updated vaccination records. In addition, any absence related to a doctor appointment- please be sure to get a Dr. note, so that we may document it as an excused absence.
